Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this medieval town is ideally sited as a base from which to explore the Morbihan area. The coast is 25 minutes drive away and there is a lake for swimming at the renowned village of Rochfort en Terre, which is just 10 minutes away. This region is ideal for walking, cycling, fishing or exploring the beautifully preserved towns and villages surrounding the Gulf of Morbihan. There is a good choice of lovely uncrowded soft sandy beaches as well as castles and chateaux to visit. Malestroit itself is bustling market town with plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes. Le Chat Noir

hokewolf Dungarvan, Co. Waterford Ireland
Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The house is centrally located in the town of Malestroit which is a good touring base for thr South of Brittany. The town itself is pretty with a number of resturaunts within walking distance and take away pizza and Morrocan resturaunts. The town is also located on the Nantes Brest canal making it ideal for running walking or cycling as there is a path along by the canal on both sides.Trips worth taking are Josselin to see the Chateau and dolls museum. Also the Resistance museum in neighbouring St Marcel is worth a look. We missed the lack of a barbaque at this property but made up for it by trying many local resturaunts. We would reccomend the Grain de Sel. There is no washing machine in the house and we had to contact the owner who lives in a studio at the rear of the property to access the cellar to allow us to wash clothes. This was not a problem. We enjoyed our stay at Le Chat Noir and found it to be good value for Money.

Comfort in Brittany

Review Submitted: March 12, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
My husband and I stayed at Le Chat Noir last October with another couple. The house was a perfect retreat to return to each evening. It had a lovely feeling of comfort and contentment. There was plenty of space for 4 people to relax and not get in each others 'way.We were able to go to the markets and cook great meals accompanied by French wine in the pretty dining room. This was after sipping wine and eating cheese on the back porch.
Linda was a very unobtrusive hostess in her little cottage at the back of the garden. She only came up to bring us the weather forecast when we were a bit down about the rain.
This is a beautiful townhouse - a quick walk into Malestroit and to the Nantes- Brest canal. There are supermarkets nearby and you can also wash at the house.
Vannes is a very nice town to visit and the drive along the gre Michelin road leads to the little port of Portivy-Breton oysters and beer.
We highly recommend LE Chat Noir

Le Chat Noir

Howard & Kate Brighton, UK.
Review Submitted: December 31, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Chat Noir in Malestroit. The house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The bright, colourful sun lounge, overlooking the garden and open to the kitchen, was a favourite spot for breakfast and lazy afternoons. With a large, comfortable lounge and bright dining room, the house offers space and flexibility.

Malestroit is a lovely small town, and the canal provides a great focal point. Access to surrounding towns, villages and the coast is excellent.

Our host was welcoming and readily accomodated our extra guests.

A warm and friendly welcome

The Inspector! Dawlish, Devon, UK
Review Submitted: November 20, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
After a frantic year at work and home, Le Chat Noir provided just the homely and relaxing short holiday we were looking for. The house is well-described on the web and we found it a homely, comfortable and relaxing place to stay. It is in an ideal location for visiting attractions in this part of Brittany and its proximity to the town made it ideal for local shopping forays for croissants, cheese, pate and the many other gastronomic delights of France.

Linda was a model of warmth and consideration. During our stay my wife fell ill. Linda was able to arrange a doctor's appointment and even came with us to show us where the surgery was! In these circumstances it was very reassuring to have someone with local knowledge at hand.

We had been to this area before and were therefore familiar with the town and some of the local attractions. There are various eateries in the town with offerings from the traditional crepe and cider combination to a reasonable three course meal. Gastronomes might want to venture further afield.

We particularly liked the Saturday market in Vannes - fresh fish to die for! We also visited the nearby Musee de la Resistance which we had seen in 1991. If you have an interest in this sort of thing it's really worth a visit, albeit that it's a bit sobering in parts.

It's probably not an ideal location for youthful hedonists but Le Chat Noir provides an ideal base for families and wrinklies like us!

Le Chat Noir-C'est Magnifique!

Ausboden Great Yarmouth,Norfolk.U.K
Review Submitted: November 20, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
The moment we walked in to Le Chat Noir it felt like we were at home.Nothing flash or pretentious, but everything as it should be(as per online description)
Malestroit is an absolute delight,as are many surrounding towns, villages etc.
Our two weeks went in a flash, but within moments of arriving back in Blighty(whilst stationary in long lines of traffic, surrounded by cones) we decided to book up for the following year.
The second year was even better and we now regard Le Chat Noir as our second home.
Ticks all the boxes.
Looking forward to our return.
