After mounting the stairs to the third floor, the entrance lobby of the Our Luxor Holiday Apartment gives a taste of even more pleasurable surprises to come! Your first WOW moment is to be confronted with our striking ablaq Moorish arch, with its inset meshrabiya work. The lovely antique furniture and handmade carpet might not even be noticed until later!
This hallway leads into our guest living room, which is of a generous size and is air-conditioned, with three dikkehs (Egyptian sofa-beds) and windows which stretch along the full length of the room. The furniture is arranged around a large hand knotted oriental carpet, and includes tables, coffee tables and floor cushions etc in traditional, antique and modern Arabian styles. Soft furnishings have been sourced from all over the Middle East and beyond, to present a sumptuous room with a real oriental feel. Antique desert prints adorn the walls along with more traditional wall hangings and an antique mirror. The heavy curtains can divide the room if required.
The living room is separated from the entrance hall by an ornate meshrabiya arch.
The kitchen is next to the entrance hall; like the ladies in the harems of the old Pashas, the interior of it is obscured from view by a fabulous meshrabiya screen. Our guests are provided with three Aswan granite work surfaces and an inset stainless steel sink and mixer tap. Electric appliances include a small oven with integral grill, a double hob, a toaster, kettle and an electric iron. This room has a ceiling fan to keep you cool. The everyday crockery is hand painted, as are the plates etc on show on the shelves and wall.
Cleaning products and tea towels are supplied, along with an ironing board which is kept in the alcove in the entrance hall, along with a brush and floor mop etc.
The air-conditioned and intimate bedroom is provided with either twin beds or a super king size, another handmade rug, bedside cabinets, dressing table and large mirror. It's illuminated by table lamps and a striking red five branch chandelier. The bed has a mosquito net, which is just for show, as we hardly get any mosquitoes or other biting pests here in town on the East Bank. Bed linen is all Egyptian cotton. An English artist was commissioned to paint the stylised Pharaonic lotus flower on the wall, and the gold curtains add a final flourish to a lovely room.
We have an en-suite bathroom with corner shower, counter-top handbasin and W.C. The period style washstand has an Aswan granite top, with black surrounds to match the three branch chandelier and W.C. seat and cover. The bathroom is equipped with an electric, 50 litre, water heater, which is ample for general use including showers. Bathrobes and towels are provided.
There is an additional W.C. and handbasin situated behind the kitchen.
The Our Luxor Holiday Apartment is exactly that, an apartment for holidaymakers, it has been designed and equipped for short term use only, and our range of services are centred upon tourists.
The Our Luxor Holiday Apartment is managed (and kept clean) by your English hosts, who are always available for help, and to give advice gained from their long association with Luxor, its people, and its environs. It's surrounded by typical Egyptian society. Children from the nearby schools mingle with street traders and shoppers as they make their way to their homes. No other holiday apartment in Luxor offers the unique situation of being right in the town centre but away from the hassle, while still being only a few minutes away from the fabulous antiquities.
