On the road to enchanting Kealakekua Bay, Mapuana is a garden haven unit surrounded by fragrant tropical flowering plants and trees and a beautiful ocean view.
The unit has a very spacious healing atmosphere, with a large lanai for outdoor dining while watching the spectacular sunsets over the expansive ocean view. The unit has it's own private entrance.
There is a full kitchen equipped with everything you need. The unit is tastefully furnished with a multicultural feeling. There is fast speed internet and a washer/dryer.
The area is blessed by abundant sealife, warm ocean, tropical plantlife and amazing Aloha. It is very close to stellar snorkeling and swimming areas, where dolphins and turtles have their home. Its located in a rich farming area where Kona coffee and macnuts are grown.
Both Kealakekua Bay and shopping and restaurants are 5 minutes away. This is a rural and tropical area but amenities are very close by.
All taxes are included in the nightly rate.
I am an Artist and love beauty. I believe my vacation rental reflects that. I have lived in other tropical locations and have surrounded Mapuana with amazing tropical foliage and flowering trees.
Mapuana means wind blown fragrance in Hawaiian and it is the fragrance that greets the guests who grace us by staying at our site.
Kealakekua drew me here with its natural beauty. Nothing compares to the bays here with easy access to oceann life including dolphins, turtles and whales. The feeling of Aloha resonates here and I was drawn here to live a natural life. Its truly the 'real' Hawaii.
There is a large lanai with a sunset view of the ocean from our vacation unit. The feel of being in a real part of Hawaii is evident in our location. Kealakekua Bay is minutes away with much Hawaiian history, great snorkeling and the presence of dolphins, turtles and tropical fish.
We are in pure bliss here in your exquisite "Tree house" pushing up into the heavens! We arrived after as it was getting dark last night (Thursday) and quietly got ourselves settled. We had such a great time doing an art tour of all your eclectic and fantastic pieces. WE LOVE IT HERE!
We had a magical sunset yoga time on the lanai this evening and are enjoying the camaraderie of
all our gecko friends. We are being very aware of the bamboo floors and treating all your treasures with much deserved reverence.
We hope to meet you someday soon. If you are on island and around it would be wonderful to have a quick visit. Otherwise, we just thank you and feel so blessed to be here for our much belated honeymoon!
Our 5-day stay at Mapuana were the most magical, pleasant, and memorable of our 12 day trip to the Big Island. We found ourselves wishing we'd stayed there the whole time. The owner, an artist and writer, has created a tropical paradise in the wonderful Captain Cook area that has the essential conveniences of the modern world, but retains the best and most sustainable aspects of traditional Hawaiian life. The interior is indeed magical, appointed with original art in a tropical and spiritual style. No noisy air conditioners here, no lights from vehicles, no noises or voices of other tourists. Wi-Fi is excellent. The rental is the top floor of a home perched at treetop level for unlimited ocean views, surrounded by tropical flowers, fruits, and scents. Birds sing day and night, geckos appear when you least expect them. The deck has over a 210 degree view of the flanks of the volcano and the ocean. Sunsets are beautiful from here, and in the dawn the sun comes down the slopes of the volcano. The deck is so comfortable that it's hard to leave. The interior is not only artfully decorated, but has many comfortable places to curl up with a book or meditate. The rental is in close proximity to the small and delightful community of Captain Cook and the beautiful Kealakekua Bay. Kona is just a short distance to the North.
We'll be going back to Magical Mapuana our next stay.
We had a lovely trip to Hawaii but have a mixed review of the accommodations. The deck, view, and landscape were lovely! The apartment was not clean, with piles of bug dropping coming from behind wall pictures and cob webs throughout. There was no prior indication of the lack of window coverings which made the afternoons too hot to be in the apartment comfortably. We left a message with the person listed on the house notes when we had a question and never heard back from them. Although the building was generally quiet, the cloth covered screen door with the sign posted to "do not enter, private" seemed to have a person in it/behind it one evening. At the very least I heard noises which spooked me so I called out, but no one responded. Odd. Numerous entry doors were odd-the main door, one at the bottom of the stairs, the cloth covered screen door. Also, one morning I got a knock on the door from the neighbor below requesting that I remove my shoes complaining that I kept her up all night with each time I walked across the floor. Generally speaking the rest of the space & furnishing were adequate.
Spacious, fun with goddess theme throughout, excellent view, clean.
When I travel about the islands, I look forward to vacation rentals like this. More of a home then just a hotel room or B&B, this tropical hideaway made my Big Island trip! During an October travel writing assignment I discovered this rental and was so happy to have several days of sanctuary amongst the fruits and flowers that surround the house. Spiraling up the staircase with a live plumeria tree, my favorite flower became my favorite finish line of any of my island homes this autumn The top floor view of the budding treetops ,ocean and sloping Mauna Loa mountain to the south became my daily refuge after busy days of exploring Kealakekua and Kona. I enjoyed my morning coffee on the porch with sunrise over the mountain, and wine at sunset with the sun dipping into the ocean.
The apt. has a refreshing , open atmosphere with lovely furniture from many different cultures. I enjoyed the sounds of nature surrounding this property and found the whole atmosphere deeply relaxing.
The location was perfect, just a few miles from my favorite bay with morning dolphins and I even got to swim with a manta ray! Yet when I wanted to get some food at a restaurant or market. Magical Mapuana was just a mile below the main highway, making my daily touring easy as can be.
I especially like the Sunday morning Green market at Amy H. Greenwell Garden about 10 minutes south, and the Big Island Bees Honey Museum just down the road from the rental as well. I will certainly pay a visit to this rental on my next Big Island travel assignment.
We had a nice week in the apartment. The place was not cleaned or prepared upon our arrival so we were told to go somewhere for an hour after our 7 hour flight. Every morning we were awakened at 4:30 by screaming crows so we could not sleep in our entire stay. One day we decided to reside in the apartment between the hours of noon and 4pm. Unfortunately, it was unbearably hot inside, the sun and heat pouring into the living room despite the fans going full blast. Twice we had to request that the hot water be turned on so we could take a hot shower. The view was beautiful. The mosquitoes were horrendous.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay here. This second-story, large, airy accommodation had a wonderful open feeling, looking out over flowered trees to a view of the ocean and beautiful sunsets. There are 2 sleeping spaces (main room and another room separated by curtain with loads of windows) and both beds are very comfortable (I have a bad back and really know and appreciate a good bed!). It was great having the full kitchen, which was well-stocked for cooking. My only complaint is that the kitchen could have been cleaner. The place is full of artwork, much done by Sandia, and adds so much to the delightful ambiance. There is also a great cd collection of world music, etc, which we sampled. It was a treat to eat meals or just chill on the large deck, where we watched and interacted with some cute and colorful geckos. One climbed up on the table where I was eating breakfast and licked a piece of papaya from my finger! We chose this property because of its proximity to good snorkeling and were not disappointed; many good spots close-by as well as a very reasonable drive to the Punalu'u black sand beach at the south of the island, where sea turtles are reliably present and we saw some. Also just a gorgeous place!
There are many wonderful places to swim, kayak and snorkel nearby. Kealakekua Bay is jusy a few minutes away where dolphins come to play. Manini Beach park is also nearby with very easy access into the water. City of Refuge is also close, is an national park and was a spiritual refuge in ancient times for Hawaiians
There are many restaurants a short drive away as well as grocery stores .
