High and Low points
Review Submitted: June 29, 2009
Date of Stay: June 2009
Highlights of this vacation: Decent weather, good fishing, total isolation from noise, pretty scenery, plenty of outdoor space for the dogs to roam, loons calling their young, woodpeckers hammering on the roof, paddling the canoe on the serene lake, checking out the beaver dams and lodges.
Low points: arriving at Eagle's Nest after an 8 hour drive to find dead bugs on the window sills, floors, and rugs, discovering dead leaves and twigs in the bedding of the only bedroom on the first floor, a metal spiral staircase leading to the second floor/loft which prevented one couple accessability due to physical limitations, the same staircase presenting a hazard to anyone unfamiliar to the cabin, one ceiling fan to cool a cabin that has no cross ventilation in the loft, a twin bed that had no supporting slats across the frame and subsequently fell through to the floor when anything was placed upon it, a gas fridge that never actually kept the bottom part cold or the freezer frozen, and a proprietor who appeared twice during the week- once to advise us that inspectors were coming to check out the properties and once to collect the tax he forgot to include in the rental price.
Was this a totally disasterous vacation? No. The guys enjoyed fishing and the women enjoyed the time to read, play scrabble and watch some good films. I just wish that I hadn't felt the need to clean the place before I set my luggage and groceries down. I can do rustic, but not dirty.
Owner's Response: We take pride in presenting clean, modern cottages. We had recently sprayed for ants, and the customer found a couple dead ones, enen though we had vacuumed thoruoghly the night before. We have never had complaints with the staircase which meets building standards. All bedrooms have windows. The bed was broken by tenant and is now repaired. The tax was disclosed in the ad and in our correspondence with tenant. The gas frig is new and works perfectly. We did adjust it to a colder setting. The cottage was clean when "dog lady" moved in. When she left, it took us hours to clean all the dog hair off the furnature.
