Photos and Description of the St Johnsbury vacation cottage rental
- 2BR + loft, 1BA, sleep 7-8

Wilderness setting in East Ryegate, Vermont. On VAST trail. Super fishing for perch, pickeral, hoorned-pout(catfish), small mouth bass, wall- eyed pike. Watch for loons, beaver, and moose as you explore two adjoining ponds, 70-acre Upper and Lower Symes, bordered by 500 acres of forest with miles of hiking trails, all owned by your hosts, the Blaisdell's.

There are only four cottages on Symes Pond, private and secluded from each other by at least 500 feet of forest. Each is located directly on the pond with spectacular views from each front porch. These new knotty pine cottages each feature a cathedral ceiling, glass front wood-stove or fire pit, satellite TV, free wi fi internet service,VCR, full kitchen, gas heat, private sandy beach that has a gradual slope; perfect for the young ones.

NEW THIS YEAR! Each cottage has a brand-new wood fired outdoor hot tub constructed of Eastern White Cedar. Fire up your tub and soak in the natural beauty of Symes Pond. Each seats six.

A free canoe or row boat is provided to each cottage. A paddle boat is shared between the campers. Kayaks are available for rent. A bundle of firewood is provided at no charge. Additional firewood is available for a small fee.

Please click the photo link below to get a description of each of our cottages. Send me an email and I will respond with an attachment with full information including rates and payment instructions. The rates quoted here are for our Boulder Bluff cottage. The larger cottages, Moose Landing, Loon Lodge, and Eagles Nest, are $200 more per week.

We are located only ten minutes off I-91 near St. Johnsbury. Please contact us for availability. We do not use the calendar.

Owner Description: I am a retired postmaster. I had been living at the advertised cottage year round until my 82 year old father fell out of a 20 foot high tree stand while hunting on the property. I had to leave this special place in order to care for him. I now offer to share this home with you.

Why the Owner Chose Symes Pond: This property is best described as 'A piece of Heaven'. The wooded mountains slope down to meet the pond. There is absolutely no road noise. All that can be heard is an ocassional call of the Loon, the hoot of an owl, or perhaps the howl of the coyote at night.

The Unique Benefits Of This Cottage: After dark, sit in the hot tub which overlooks the pond. Shut off the jets, turn off the lights, and just listen. Your space becomes one with the surrounding woods. You may hear a deer crossing just above you or geese landing on the pond below. The call of the loon or the hoot of an owl breaks the silence. You look up and see the stars or perhaps the blinking lights of a jet thousands of feet above as it crosses the night sky. This is the place to let all your cares evaporate. You will go home with a new perspective. And you will come back.

We LOVED Eagle's Nest !!

We LOVED Eagle's Nest !!

Our stay in the Eagel's Nest cottage was GREAT! The view is breathtaking! We loved canoing, and searching for wildlife. We saw deer, loons, wild tiurkey, chickadees, nuthatches, and geese. We especially enjoyed the horseback riding. Thanks, Kym, for such a memorable experience!
The views were great and everything so peaceful.
The water was warm. We loved swimming out to the float.
The cabin was so comfy, we loved everything about the cabbin. Lou especially enjoyed reading on the balcony overlooking Symes Pond.
We have been dissapointed in other places we have stayed. This week far exceeded our expectations. It is the best kept secret in Vermont!
Thanks so much for your hospitality Carl and Kym.
We'll be back!

Moose Landing

We enjoyed the design of the cabin's open architecture: the interior balcony overlooking the living room, the upstairs deck over the front porch, the quaint and more-than-adequate kitchen. The location can't be beat. From the front porch, we experienced the beautiful view of Lower Symes pond and the surrounding mountains, which showed no signs of civilization. The chairs on the deck were ultra-comfortable, and the hot tub, also with a view of the pond, provided an equally relaxing experience.

The narrow winding road to the cabin contributed to our feeling of seclusion.

The fishing was excellent. We caught a lot of pickerel and small-mouth bass on spoons and little green-and-white artificial minnows, working the shoreline and edges of the lily pads. With a worm, a hook, and an hour, a person could catch 20 perch, many over 8 inches.

Kayaking on the pond was a blast, and there was another pond connected to the north-west side of Lower Symes that is postcard perfect and equally untouched by man. Sliding silently across the reflection of the mountains in a kayak, I saw deer cautiously approach the water's edge for a drink. Many experiences were both peaceful and exciting.

We liked watching the kingfishers fish and the humming birds hum. Anyone interested in birds will enjoy seeing the grouse and turkey in the woods and loons, herons and ducks on the water, not to mention the countless other birds.

We took a few escapades to the north, including biking in Quebec and a quick stop for poutine. Cabot is a town in the proximity of the cabin, about 20 minutes away, and the Cabot Cheese Factory Tour was both educational and delicious.

Carl, the owner of the cabin, was pleasant. He made sure we were set immediately after our arrival, and he checked on us a couple of times during the week. I never felt like he was intruding, but I always felt like he would respond if we needed him. We didn't. Everything was perfect.

We brought an extra fan because I read a review that the air circulation in the cabin was poor. We didn't share this observation. There was a ceiling fan and two fans in the cabin, but nevertheless, one of the August nights, we didn't mind having our extra fan to quickly regulate the indoor temperature for comfort.

There is a strong Verizon signal throughout the location and satellite TV in the cabin, but I recommend keeping the electronic devices turned off.

Bliss! Moose Landing

So perfect. Everything as advertised. My husband and two Golden Retrievers, Trinity and Brady, and I spent our anniversary here. The dogs had a great time romping and swimming. We had a time great reading, cooking, enjoying a warm fire and the Milky Way! We did hear the coyotes howling and the beavers slapping the pond. Great to melt away the rat race. Can't wait to head back to paradise!
Thanks Carl and Kym!

Symes Pond

I have been reluctant to give a review of this little wonderful place called Symes Pond and the cabins available there the reason for my reluctance is too good of a review, then we might not get to go because of the demand increasing). We have come the past 2 summers and haven't relaxed this much in ages. From fishing to swimming to horseback riding (my wife only) this is an outdoors persons paradise. Yes it can be a little rough getting there but well worth it. We are hoping to return for another 2 weeks this summer. Thanks Carl and Kym for sharing your wonderful cottages.

Beautiful cabin on a peaceful pond. Had a wonderful weekend, the setting is beautiful and the cabin very comfortable. Fishing wasn't bad either!

I would recommend this rental to anyone looking to get away from it all and just relax for awhile.
