This fully equipped cottage on Lake Huron faces west and features spectacular sunsets over the lake. Located just four miles south of the quaint village of Port Austin. This cottage features 3 bedrooms. The cottage has a large furnished patio facing the lake with a barbecue. There are 1.5 baths and a nicely equipped kitchen. Pets are extra but allowed with prior approval.
The cottage was rustic as previous reviews have mentioned but it was perfect for our family. The beach was awesome and they were very accommodating to our needs. The only draw back to our vacation was that we brought our dogs. They were a handful and we will probably not bring them again. Thanks for a great week. ( FYI they never complained about our dogs)
The cottage is well equipped and maintained. It's a quaint log cabin but it was nice and clean. It was still too early in the year for swimming but we enjoyed long beach walks. There is a fire pit on the beach and it was fun roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire. The sunsets over the lake are amazing. The owners are helpful and have good recommendations for dining and other entertainment. They provide a book with all the area attractions. We plan on renting again.
The cottage was pretty much what I expected from the pictures online. There was just about everything you needed other than food. The one thing which was not as I expected was the beds. They were horrible! They smelled very bad, the mattresses were very uncomfortable, and they were literally wet. I did not get one good night's sleep the whole week. Another thing, the owners only provide 2 garbage bags for the week.
We really enjoyed our stay at this quaint cottage in Port Austin. It is well equipped and was very clean. The sunsets over the lake were stunning. We enjoyed the evenings sitting by the campfire sipping a beverage. The hosts are good people and respond quickly to any requests.
While we had terrible weather, with winds whipping about 30 mph the entire weekend, we still had a great time. The cottage was well equipped with a full kitchen, patio furniture, fire pit, etc. Bring extra blankets, slippers and toliet paper/paper towel.
If I had one complaint, it would be that it was dirty - beyond just sandy from the beach. I couldn't wait to get home to shower. Having said that, We absolutely had a fantastic time with great friends. A trip I'll likely remember the rest of my life. Just adjust your expectations if you are expecting a resort retreat. This is definitely a rustic cottage - which was exactly what we were aiming for.
Of course sandy beaches and water activities are the highlights of the area but there is also canoeing, golf, adventure golf, horseback riding, shopping, hiking and a good selection of restaurants nearby. Port Austin also has an open air farmer / flea market on Saturday's. For a small town it has grown substantially and is a popular activity.
Port Crescent day park which is only a few miles away has some of the nicest beaches in Michigan. The park also features clearly marked hiking trails which are worth seeing. For bike riders, M-25 between Port Austin and Caseville features 8' wide bike lanes in both directions.
