Tom & Bonnie,Your house is lovely. We had a great stay in Maine. We are looking forward to coming back. Thank you again. A.M. & J.
My husband and I stayed at Toad Hall for the second consecutive year. We absolutely love this property. The lake is beautiful and can be seen from many rooms in the house, including the screened-in porch. The lake can also be enjoyed from the outdoor wooden deck and the dock. We hiked in Acadia and visited Bar Harbor and several small harbor towns and really enjoyed those excursions. However, our favorite was hanging out at the house, reading, looking at the lake, kayaking and listening to the loons. Total relaxation. This was a great get-away and we're looking forward to returning. Bonnie and Tom are lovely people and very helpful.
Just vacationed at Toad Hall with my husband, two teenage children, and husband's parents. The house was much larger than expected, with plenty of room for us to hang out together, or have privacy to read or watch tv (which didn't interest us at all- the view was much better than anything on tv!). The beds were very comfortable, all linens provided. It was so nice to arrive after a long drive to have everything ready- we didn't even have to make the beds! The kitchen is modern and was a pleasure to cook in. We spent most of our time relaxing on the deck or one of the docks (one at the edge of the water plus two swim docks). The loons were constant companions. The house is perfectly situated to kayak from, and the lake is so peaceful and quiet, with very little motor boat traffic. I have to say that this was the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We did bike in nearby Acadia National Park one day, which was great, but other than that we were content to just stay put, relax and enjoy the view. Bonnie and Tom were great hosts and very attentive. We highly recommend a stay here.
Traveling from upstate New York..I can say that Toad Hall is generous in size, and perfect for entertaining friends for dinner. We were invited guests and so pleased with the peaceful setting The waterfront area is easily accessible and well suited for swimming and boating..A lovely home.
This is one of the most attractive places I've seen in visiting the Maine coast over the past 35 years!
This is our second visit to Tom and Bonnie's little piece of paradise on Toddy Pond. This time we opted for the bigger Toad Hall since we planned on spending more time with the grandchildren and what a surprise to find the "Rustic Elegance" of this spacious and gracious place! The grandchildren were delighted with their own rooms and private bathrooms. The older girls loved the large loft twin beds which were brand new! The 'family' room was also a big hit with the younger set with it's music and movie library and stereo system. This time it was Toads and Frogs to count as there were many tasteful sketches and statues of frogs and toads scattered around the house (last time we stayed at Tom and Bonnie's "Bear's Den". Then it was bears to count. )
Outside we spent many a pleasant hour lounging on the huge waterfront deck watching our young grandson splash in the shallow water on the shore while the girls swam or paddled out to the yellow swimming raft. We listened to their muffled giggles and chatter over the sparkling water. I can't imagine a more pleasant way to spend the day. There was a nice canoe available for us here as well and two kayaks to rent if we liked.
Acadia is always a must and we had a very enjoyable day trip hiking the trails. We were so happy to arrive 'home' to Toad Hall with it's amazing peace and quiet broken only by the call of the loons over the water. I think we'll keep coming here as long as we can.
A glorious 3 weeks. The screen room is a marvel. While on the dock we saw Eagles (one circled right over us), Loons (came within 5 ft. of dock), large turtles, and a lot of other wildlife. The kayaking was also a pleasure. We will be back next year.
We had a great time at this cottage. The house was in perfect condition, whith a beautiful location on the pond. Nice quiet setting with a screened porch for relaxing in the cool of the evening. Quick trip to Blue Hill village. Would certainly rent it again.
Acadia National Park is about a 40 minute drive on nearby Mt. Desert Island. The lovely coastal village of Blue Hill is only 15 minutes away. Known for its many fine galleries, Blue Hill has wonderful dining as well. Enjoy: Biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, rowing, swimming. Also barbecuing, birding, seashore exploration, site-seeing, museums, local dining, local shopping, movie theater.
