Gloucester is the oldest working seaport in America, and prides herself on not being 'tourist-y'. If you have seen the movie or read the book, 'The Perfect Storm,' you already know a bit about Gloucester. But there's so much more. We are also the oldest art colony, a consequence of being on the same latitude as Tuscany and Provence. Like her European counterparts, the quality of the light has made Gloucester a Mecca for artists for centuries. This is also one of the top five whale watching areas in the world.
Another superlative: If antiquing is your thing, Gloucester is nearly 400 years old; what comes of folks' cellars and attics is the real thing. There's so much more to do here: charter fishing, hiking, biking, shopping, kayaking, birding (one of the top areas in the US), sunset schooner cruises, theaters, museums, live music, beautiful beaches, tours, world-class dining. And Boston is only 45 minutes away by train or car.
