The charming town of Berkeley Springs: The Berkeley Springs area is safe, affordable, and filled with friendly people. The town is less than two hours from metro Washington. For more than two centuries, people have traveled to Berkeley Springs for the curative powers of the warm mineral waters. Today, the town includes state-of-the-art spas, good food, and shops that offer outstanding local arts and crafts.
If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and relax without being too far from civilization, you can't do better than this property. The house is wonderfully designed and equipped, and the owners provide lots of extras, including feed for the numerous deer and birds which visit the property regularly - we had 18 deer in our front yard one evening, and by the end of the week they were eating out of our hands. The screened in porch was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature, which included bullfrogs in a pond next door and lots of woodpeckers. The drive into the property along the Cacapon River is very pretty, and should be gorgeous in the fall. We definitely want to return to this house!
This property exceeded all of our expectations. I will say that the pictures do not do it justice!! This property is heavenly. Everything in the house was just as promised. It was comfortable, quite, and relaxing. We enjoyed walking down to the river every morning and doing some fishing and the kids enjoyed the park for swimming. We loved sitting on the back porch while drinking our morning coffee. The sounds and the scenery are breathtaking. Over this entire process of finding this property through our stay, it was an absolute delight working with Duane and Joyce. We hope to be back soon. If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, this is by far, your best bet. You will not be disappointed.
We enjoyed our winter stay at this spotless, well-appointed home. It's a bit of a drive from town, and our journey was made a little longer by flooding of the lower road in, but the roads are scenic and fun to drive. The downstairs bedroom and bath make it appropriate for families with older adults or anyone who doesn't like stairs. Beds are comfortable and kitchen has everything you could need, including basic foodstuffs. We were a bit disappointed by the small gas fireplace--it really doesn't add much to the ambiance... but in nicer weather, you'll be outside on the deck or the screen porch all the time anyway. I would say this is a better spot for a warm-weather stay; there would be much more to do right there. The owner was very helpful and stayed in close contact with us through the entire process. Great price for a comfortable spot.
The house is great - four large bedrooms, a nice living room and kitchen (fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils and dinnerware), and plenty of parking. Everything was spotlessly clean. The woods are beautiful - and serene. A perfect place to have a long weekend with family and/or friends, chatting, playing games, hanging out. And the price makes a weekend getaway relatively inexpensive. The nearby town of Berkley Springs is charming, has good restaurants and shopping, too.
I stayed at Walnut Hill and had the most relaxing time. At the time of arriving the deer came for their feeding so I had to take care of the wildlife first. The screened in porch and deck is a pleasant and peaceful experience in itself. We walked down to the river and just stood there enjoying the "good life". The house is spacious and very clean. Everything you need is right there at your finger tips. I really enjoyed reading the guestbook entries that have been written. It seems as though everyone has their own personal experience while they are there. And as if I wasnt relaxed enough I drove into Berkley Springs and got a hot stone massage. The stores downtown have unique items and I couldnt walk away without having to at least buying one or two items. The owners were very nice to work with, very accomodating to any needs and questions that I had. It was very easy booking the stay. Thank you..... I hope to return soon. I would really like to stay at Walnut Hill once during the Summer, Spring, Fall, and Winter just to see how the scenery changes. Im sure the beauty is there no matter what season it is.
This property has all the ingredients needed for a good family vacation or a quiet getaway for two. The house is well-designed, solidly built, and tastefully furnished. A big, open-plan kitchen flows into a dining area and living room, so if you're working in the kitchen, you're still into a conversation unfolding in the living room. There's a spacious master bedroom and bath downstairs and three other smaller bedrooms and large bath upstairs--all carpeted, functional and well-decorated. The house has 300-plus channels of Direct TV, a DVD player with about 30 films. There's a full bookcase holding a variety of books from guidebooks to novels, board games, puzzles and cards. And that's just indoors. Outside is, well,...West Virginia. It's a three minute walk to the Cacapon River and decent fishing (although there's better fishing half a mile away). There are many other walks and rides to surrounding areas. Although there are other houses in the area, it's quiet and remote. We feed the deer in the evening and hope not to run into a bear at night. If you forget milk, you're about six miles to the nearest village grocery store and about twice that to a real supermarket. We've been here all seasons of the year, often to simply regroup as a family. We've always left feeling like we can't wait to come again.
