Your host is an art director and film conception artist based in Los Angeles and London. He chose St. Cyprien to lay his hat back in Europe after 20 years across the pond.

The Owner purchased this house in 2012

As he has found and confidently expects you will too, his house offers the perfect base for discovering the surrounding area. With a chateau or mysterious cave round nearly every corner, you may well think you have fallen into a film set. Because of the dramatic scenery and fine weather, many films, such as Ridley Scott's 'The Duellists' have been filmed here.

French village charmer

Along with two other couples we stayed in this large property while spending a week touring the Dordogne region. The house was very spacious, with each couple having their own double bed (or larger) and bathroom. As the bedrooms were over three levels, it was easy to have some privacy, if we wished. We all loved the historical aspect of the house with its thick stone walls and timbered ceilings. At the same time it has been sympathetically restored to have all the conveniences of home including comfortable beds, double glazed windows, dishwasher, big oven, separate laundry with washing machine and dryer. The house is in the heart of St Cyprien, a small village with a good Sunday market, a few restaurants and a local supermarket, all within a few minutes walking distance. With the very large kitchen which opened onto a private courtyard, we mostly chose to eat in, having purchased many of the local delicacies. After visiting many of the surrounding towns, I think St Cyprien is one of the most charming villages in the Dordogne and this house is representative of that charm. The property manager was most welcoming and easily contactable. The level of cleanliness was without fault. I hope we can return at some later date.
Owner's Response: Dear Margaret,

This is a stylish gite in the centre of St. Cyprien. Everything in the centre of the village is within walking distance, including a popular large bistro and frequent markets. The gite is well-appointed and very comfortable. There's a nice outdoor courtyard for sitting in the sun!

Lovely stay in comfortable authentic French house

We have very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely large French house, that combines all modern comfort with authentic architecture! The manager welcomed us with some wine and bread and was very nice. She had prepared a book with all we needed to know about things to see and do. We stayed with two families with children and we all loved the surroundings, we felt like living in a painting. We went swimming in and canoeing on the Dordogne and visited the impressive caves of Proumeyssac. We also enjoyed visiting local markets and spent an excellent evening with food, drinks and wine in the village. By car all trips were within 10-20 minutes drive. Saint Cyprien is al truly lovely village. We will definitely recommend this house to everyone!
Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your great review of the house in St Cyprien. We would always be happy to welcome you there for future holidays. Best regards,

Kirsten

The nearest coast is Arcachon Bay near Bordeaux, approximately 2.5 hours drive away. In fact one can reach the river without even having to get in the car (10minutes walk).

You are surrounded by castles, caves, vineyards, prehistoric dwellings etc.

Aquarium du Perigord Noir at Le Bugue - 14kms

Caves - Lascaux 40kms, Les Gouffre de Proumeyssac 12kms

Bergerac (Cyrano de Bergerac) 54kms

Sarlat-en-Caneda - 22kms

A google search will bring up the names and locations of several golf courses around Saint Cyprien, the closest being La Lolivarie at Siorac (5kms).

If you are seeking the genuine French village life experience, with the added convenience that you can stroll to the 'boulangerie' (bakery) for croissants in the morning, or to the local cafés and restaurants for a coffee or dinner, this house is for you. All the facilities of the town are on your doorstep from hairdressers to shoe shops and St. Cyprien holds the acknowledged best produce market in the region along the high street every Sunday.
