Enjoy cool lake breezes no matter which way the wind is blowing. Don't just hear the haunting call of the loons; watch them fish just yards away while you sunbathe on one of the 3 docks. Enjoy our 3 boats, including our brand-new pontoon boat, and our private mainland docking area with more places to swim, relax and explore. Doze in the hammock under the pines after swimming laps around the island or fishing in the lake's prime fishing waters. Sip cocktails on the sandy beach and watch the sun set behind Moose Mountain. While the mainlanders buy blueberries at the local market, you pick them right on the island, from the bushes lining the water's edge. Relax in the comfortable living room with your feet up by the fire or reclining on the double length, cushioned window seat - you are never far from the lake.

A quick 5 minute trip in one of our 3 boats to the mainland brings you to the village of Sanbornville, with several restaurants to choose from, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and great ice cream shop. A variety of restaurants and eclectic shops are available in Wolfeboro, the nation's first resort town, just a 20 minute drive past beautiful views and local farms. Several golf courses are at hand, antiquing, amusement parks, museums, and historic Mt. Washington are easy and scenic day drives. The Maine coast, with fresh lobster, LL Bean and Kennebunkport is 1 hour. Funky Portsmouth, with its whale-watching cruises, art gallery district and many restaurants and shops is less than 1 hour away. Our private mainland docking area offers another place to swim and is a great base for walks or exploring. Middle Island has 3 boats, including our brand-new pontoon boat, which makes for easy access from the docks - just step right onto the boat platform.

Idyllic! We offer a new pontoon boat, perfect for sunset cruises and easy access from the docks. Just step off the dock onto the boat platform. We also offer an aluminum run-about and open aluminum fishing boat. Our mainland dock area provides another peaceful location for swimming, lounging and a great base for walking and exploring.

Even though you may not want to leave your own little paradise, a 5 minute ride in one of the 3 powerboats brings you to all that the mainland has to offer. Fresh lobster on the Maine coast is a little over an hour away, historic Wolfeboro on Lake Winnipesaukee just 20 minutes, outlet shopping in North Conway, and trips to Mt. Washington, Storyland and more only a quick day trip. In less time than you spend commuting to work every morning you can get to golf, hiking and more antique shops than there are Starbucks in Seattle.

Picture a private hide-away with a high-hearthed, floor-to ceiling stone fireplace, full kitchen, screened porch, antique furniture and a sandy beach and shallow water for the kids, set in a reservoir quality lake and you just begin to get a sense of the experience awaiting you at Middle Island.

Middle Island is amazing! I have had the good fortune of returning to middle island for several years. Each time a new discovery awaits me. From the first morning light to the last call of the loons, Middle Island craddles its inhabitants and soothes their souls with recreation, relaxation and reflection. It is one of my favorite places.

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed vacation - this is it! We had a great time boating, swimming, strumming the guitar, reading, playing cards and relaxing. The rustic accomodations met all of our needs (we even baked a cake in the antique oven). Caretaker Eric did a swell job of orienting us to the boats and property and was available to answer any questions during the week. Our dogs loved the freedom to explore the island. The town of Sanbornville had just what we needed for the week - groceries, beer, ice and some restaurants. If you like the kind of vacation that leaves you needing a vacation, this may not be for you. But if you like a vacation that relaxes, refreshes and rejuvinates, by all means this is it. We can't wait to come back.

This place is superb in so many ways! Our family has rented several cottages on lakes in Maine or NH over the years and Middle Island is by far the best. You get sunrises and sunsets and, of course, plenty of sun in between - sun is important when you have such a beautiful lake to jump into all day long - there are even docks on both sides of the island from which to dive or cannonball. The water is very clean and my wife and kids especially appreciated the sandy bottom; it's a small lake (perhaps 2 miles by 1 mile), which means the water is warmer than larger lakes. Having the boat was a big 'plus'; we tubed daily and I appreciated that there is less traffic on this lake than on most others in the area. While I spent most of my time outdoors, including reading on the hammock or grilling supper or playing with the dog, the inside was prettier, more spacious and well designed than expected and a joyous place to hang out. We were told to expect rustic; sorry, but this cottage was several notches above that! The people were great to deal with, and the caretaker was always smiling and willing to help out; she even called a couple of times to check on us. While Middle Island is a bit pricier than other places, it is well worth it. When you consider the additional cost of renting a boat, higher prices for sunnier sides of lakes, the setting and views, and the privacy, Middle Island is hard to beat. My only hesitation in recommending it, is that I don't want it to be booked solid when we call to rent it again next year! Enjoy!!!!

I have a camp on this lake and we always have gone by this camp. It has the most beautiful setting and you can see any where on the lake. When ever we drive by there are always people out there and they are always having a great time. So if you are on the edge about renting this camp I would have to say go for it!
