I have lived in Teddington for many years having moved from rural south Wales. I have brought my children up in Teddington and they have been educated locally. In fact, I have worked at their school for a number of years. Now they have flown the nest and I have returned to my native Wales, I want to share this lovely home with visitors to the area.
Fairfax Road, while perhaps not the prettiest house around, has a lovely homely feel about it. Once you step through the door, you forget you're mid terrace and the busy streets of London are a short distance away. This is a warm and friendly home that I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing my children up in.
Teddington ticks all the boxes for me - quick and easy access to central London for work, good schools for my children's education, a fantastic social network, some of the finest places of interest on the doorstep and wide open spaces that reminded me (a little) of home!
In the spring, the front of the house is adorned with lovely white wisteria. The pretty garden is filled with the scent of classic English roses and lilac. Both bring an instant cottage feel to our home, which is hard to find in the busy metropolis.
Inside, the house is laid out over three floors, which each room spacious and filled with light. As soon as I walked over the threshold with my daughter, I knew instantly that this was where I wanted us to live.
Fairfax Road is the ideal base for anyone wishing to visit and explore London. Teddington itself is a lovely leafy suburb; the river Thames runs through it – it is well worth a ten minute stroll to the Angler’s Arms at Teddington Lock! There are some fine parks with historical significance - General Dwight D. Eisenhower planned the D-Day landings at Bushy Park and used it as the HQ for the USAAF forces throughout the Second World War. Henry VIII's Hampton Court Palace – a true masterpiece of architecture and design – can be reached on foot through Bushey Park or is a short bus ride away, as are the spectacular Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew
Teddington high street offers all the shops and amenities you will need during your stay. There are food supermarkets (all of which will delivery groceries to the house) and pharmacies, an array of independent gift traders and a wide variety of restaurants and takeaways. Chef Gordon Ramsey featured the award winning Simply Thai restaurant on FWord show and it continues to be an outstanding eatery. It is just a minutes’ walk away.
For sporting enthusiasts, this house could not be better situated. It is convenient for highlight sporting fixtures at the All England Tennis Club at Wimbledon and Twickenham and horse racing at Epsom, Ascot, Kempton & Sandown and Polo at Ham House.
Central London is a 20 minute train ride away, with regular services departing from Teddington (a short walk along Fairfax Road and through quiet streets) and Kingston into the central rail hub of Waterloo station. The bus stop (Route 285) is just a hundred metres away at the end of Fairfax Road. It goes to Kingston-upon-Thames in one direction or straight into London Heathrow Airport in the other.
