This cottage is located in South Iceland, in a peaceful place in the countryside, right by the Golden Circle and only 50 min drive from Reykjavík City Center. You will find this beautiful house both spacious and comfortable.
The cottage has four bedrooms. Two bedrooms provide sleeping accommodation for two people, one bedroom provides sleeping accommodation for one adult and one child and the fourth bedroom sleeps one person. There is a wardrobe in the biggest bedroom and all other bedrooms have large drawers for guests to put their clothes and other things in.
The bathroom has a nice shower and a washing machine.
The kitchen and the living room are open plan, giving the cottage a bright and spacious feel. All common kitchen utensils are in the kitchen including a fridge, freezer, toaster and coffee maker for the convenience of guests.
In the living room there is a sofa, a TV with a DVD player and a beautiful fireplace. The windows are tall, allowing plenty of natural light to saturate the living space. These gorgeous windows provide a lovely view as they are overlooking the circle of mountains nearby.
There is also a cosy living room upstairs.
A large wooden deck surrounds the cottage so you can catch the sun all day and also enjoy the midnight sun in the summertime.
My name is Bragi. I bought this piece of land in 2008 to build a summerhouse. The location seemed perfect, not to far from Kópavogur, where I live, and surrounded with beautiful landscape. The next few years, with some help of course, I built and furnished this house.
Bragi Már Unnsteinsson purchased this cottage in 2010
The location is ideal for people who want to take short day trips to various beautiful places in South and West Iceland, as to the Reykjanes peninsula. The house is literally located on the Golden Circle, yet it is in a private and quiet area.
The house is very bright and spacious, recently furnished and has a very large wooden deck all around. There is amazing bird life in the area. Just a few minute drive to the beautiful golf course at Kiðjaberg and an equally short drive to the nice swimming pool at Borg.
Confortable, modern, well equiped but a little bit too far away from the road N°1.
- Enough of space for 5-7 people
- good location next to Golden Circle
We enjoyed our stay :-)
The seven of us came to this house to film auroras and we were not disappointed. We had aurora for 3 nights straight while staying here. It was a very beautiful house in a quiet surrounding with little light pollution. Owner was helpful and accommodating. Fully equipped and fully furnished. The second living room in the attic and a little bed room that was fantastic for us to chit chat while waiting for aurora to appear.
One word of caution though, if you are not used to driving on thin slippery ice and you have booked the cottage during the colder months, please exercise great caution while driving on the icy, unpaved roads to the house. Even if your car is a 4WD. If not used to it, ask the owner for advice. Do not take driving on ice lightly. We learnt a painful lesson after we damaged our rental car undercarriage (not covered by insurance). As for fire place, those woods covered with red/black wrappers are expensive and not complimentary so only use those without wrappers. Overall we had a pleasant and fun stay. Will recommend to others.
We didn't expect this large house, when Bragi showed us the cottage. It is a bright, nice and clean house, and very complete, even towels in the bathroom, and all kind of machinery (dishwasher, washingmachine, fridge), a bbq outside.
We stayed with 3 persons and had a lot of space.
The location is great, quiet, and from the terraces all around the house you have a nice view, for instance on the vulcano Kerid.
From this place there is a lot of things to do in the surrounding, like visiting
Thingviller, the church of Skalholt with its beautiful stained glass windows, Gullfoss, the mountains nearby Hveragerdi with boiling mudholes and steamcurrents, the artmuseum Gerdarsafn in Kopavogur (near Reykjavik).
When you need an advice what to do, in the house are a lot off brochures, and Bragi can give you tips.
We liked Iceland, and this stay made it perfect (when the hottub is fixed and a vacuumcleaner is added, it will be 100 %).

This beautiful cottage is ideally located for active people who want to enjoy the comfort of staying in one place, while being able to see various places of beautiful Icelandic nature, as well as being close to the city's culture.
Easy to take day trips to various locations both in South and West Iceland.
It is a 35 min. drive to Þingvellir. Geysir and Gullfoss are 30 min. away and the Blue Lagoon is 80 min. drive. A day trip to Jökulsárlón is really worth while, driving through breathtaking scenes. Taking the ferry to Vestmanneyjar is also a big favourite.
The town Selfoss is only 15 min away and the town Hveragerði is just 17 min away. There you will find all necessary services: Medical service, Supermarkets, Gas stations, Restaurants, Banks, Pharmacy, Liquor store, Museum, Golf Course, etc.
There are many public pools with hot tubs in the area. Try the ones in Borg, Selfoss or Hveragerði! Ideal to visit after a busy day of activity in this beautiful area.
