Great spot for three generation family vacation
Thank you so much for the wonderful home away from home! There were seven of us - my daughters, their husbands, and the two granddaughters. One night we were joined by my sister and her husband.
We had a great week - only one day was a rain-out, Monday, and we took the children candle pin bowling. Every other day was a great beach day. The playground at the elementary school at the end of Summer Street was perfect for afternoon walks. We also walked into the village for the bookstore and candy store, and church on Sunday morning.
My daughters took me kayaking (outfitter on Bear Skin Neck, walkable!) for my birthday - the young man that went out with us, Andrew, is going to be a senior at Rockport High - very knowledgeable as well as personable.
The house is ideal for a large family - younger daughter and her husband took the third floor suite, I took one of the rooms at the head of the second floor stairs, grandchildren across from me, and the girls' parents took the big room with the stained glass windows at the end of the hall.
The ability to close off the first floor rooms from the stair case was wonderful - I could be in the kitchen or living room with children, daughters, while the men slept in and no one was disturbed. The kitchen was really the heart of the house for us - the long table was perfect for games as well as sit down suppers.
We used the dining room as the "puzzle table" to work on a big vacation puzzle (finished just before children's bed time on Friday), rather than have any meals there.
All seven of us fit easily in the kitchen for meals, or just outside. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped, important since we are a family of cooks. My daughter got up early on my birthday to make me a pineapple upside down cake - she had brought ingredients, and found everything she needed for equipment in the kitchen - even a Kitchenaid stand mixer. We bought lobsters Thursday for lobster rolls at Roy Moore's, and corn at Latoff's. The awesome gas grill was used three evenings, doing the corn and other vegetables on lobster roll night.
I look forward to making plans for next summer, and hope that we will be able to return!
