This is the 4th time I have used Homeaway. This is the first time I would not return to a residence.
On the positive side, the unit is spacious and well furnished and the price is low.
However, the unit was noisy due to the traffic and neighbors. It does not have air conditioning, which appears to be common in Hawaii, so we kept the windows open. The temperature was comfortable but unfortunately the unit is next to the main street and we could also hear the neighbors who also kept their windows open.
Fixable problems: The DVD player in the living room did not work. We tried 2 different DVDs but it said "no disk". The TV in the bedroom with two beds was not connected to the cable channels. We found the liquid shower soap but there was only one bottle for 2 bathrooms.
The unit is located in Princeville which is fine if you want to stay on the North Shore or go to Kapaa. However exploring the western part of the island will take a 2 hour drive.

Owner's Response: The guest is correct about the DVD player. We did not learn about that in time to replace it before their arrival. However, they are not correct about the cable in the second bedroom. It checks out fine. And they failed to locate the extra soap underneath the sink in the B bedroom..
Also, the guest admitted that he uses air conditioning at all times in Florida and never hears outside noises. In Hawaii, people tend to keep their windows open, especially on Kauai where air conditioning is rare. And the road is a two lane neighborhood street, not the highway. The traffic noise is not as bad as this guest alleges. We have repeat visitors, some who stay for months at a time. They would not return every year if the place was as bad as this guest falsely claims.
We request that you contrast this review with the numerous five star reviews we have received. While we'd like to please everybody, unfortunately there is the occasional disgruntled invididual who cannot be satisfied. Ironically, this guest left the place in the worst condition of any guest we have had in quite some time. We had to pay a surcharge to our cleaning service, it was that bad. Since the DVD player was not operating, we did not charge them for the additional expenses for the filthy condition they left the place in as courtesy to them.
