Hi-speed internet. This cozy log home is located on 80 acres of pristine private land with fantastic views of the Southwest Rocky Mountains and the sacred Sleeping Ute Mountain! This property is only 25 minutes from Mesa Verde and only 90 minutes from the Telluride Ski Area! It is only 50 minutes from Durango!
The great room has floor to ceiling windows facing south with nothing but trees and rolling canyons as far as the eye can see! The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs, or you can barbeque on the east covered porch with the gas grill. Downstairs there are two cozy bedrooms with double antique beds and a full bath. Located upstairs is the large private master bedroom, which has a king-size bed upon a custom log frame. Connected to the master bedroom is the master bath with a beautiful tiled shower and antique claw foot bathtub. Central air conditioning and heating will keep you comfortable during any season.
After a day of exploring the ancient cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde (only 25 min away), relax in the six person Olympia Caldera hot tub. If you look hard enough you will find pottery shards, arrowheads, possible kiva sites and other scattered remnants of this ancient culture on the 80 private acres the home sits on. Please do not remove or disturb any of these artifacts.
If you long for peace and quiet, this is the place. The fall weather is gorgeous, the winters are mild and snow country is only a short distance away. The home rests on the edge of a series of tree covered canyons leading up to a spectacular view of the sacred Sleeping Ute Mountain. Not one other human made structure can be seen from the south deck of the cabin to the Sleeping Ute in the distance.
Thanks for a wonderful stay. Your home was just perfect! We loved the solutide at the end of the day. Your hot tub was perfect at the end of a day of hiking. My grand daughter can not wait to get back and tell their friends. We had a perfect vacation.
Was able to book this location at the last minute for a New Year outing in Durango. The weather turned to really cold and snow. The accommodations where what was expected and the quiet surroundings made for a peaceful retreat. We really enjoyed this place and plan to be back. This place is about a 40 minute drive to Durango, but the scenery traveling is worth the location. And with the secluded location, the view at night is really great from the deck.
With wifi and DirecTV, one can spend time entertaining themselves even if the weather turns for the worst while you are there. The drive to the location may make you think where am I going, but when you pull through the gate, you will be happy to arrive.
What great place for the family to get together. The sunsets behind the " sleepin ute" mountain were so beautiful. Mesa Versa is also a special place that everyone should see. The cabin was very comfortable and everything we hoped it would be. Grilling out on the deck with that view was the best.
Was able to book this cabin/home at the last minute for a get away. Even though this was a bit further from Durango than wanted, was not disappointed with the location. Peaceful and private. It was a cold time with snow and had no problems with coming and going to Cortez or Durango. We will be back for sure. The central heat system may be just a little undersized for 0 degree temps, but we were comfortable as it had to operate quite a bit. If you need some quiet time and the view of the mountain is relaxing. The layout inside is great and internet access is great. Was able to check emails for work and respond which allowed for us to enjoy our time here.
Don't let the location discourage from this place. The drive to Durango is not long and scenery will be great.
My husband and I loved the log cabin and the property. The privacy was great, enjoyed hiking on the 80 acres, enjoyed the view of Ute Mtn, cabin was clean and well equipped. Days were spent hiking four national parks including Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands and the Grand Canyon. Also went to Telluride enjoyed the mountain vista, and the aspen at their fall peak. We also visited Durango and had a great meal and enjoyed shopping in the various stores. We can't say enough good things about the cabin and the surrounding towns. Property manager was very prompt in returning our deposit and provided great ideas for places to see. We would go back in a heartbeat and definitely recommend renting this property. Thank you Lana!!
The Cortez cabin met our expectations, and calling it a "cabin" doesn't do it the honor it merits.
We found a spacious home with all the ameneties we wanted, in a secluded location away from the hustle and bustle, yet a relatively short driving distance from Mesa Verde, the Anasazi heritage center,.. .
We loved the large deck with a great view, and regular visits from hummingbirds.
We like to go self-catering, and the kitchen had all the appliances we could wish.
A well kept and clean cabin, we highly recommend!
This was our second time to stay in this cabin, on our previous trip my son did not get to go with us. I really wanted to share this cabin and area with him, so we decided to come back here & once again we had a great time. In the past we were disappointed when we arrived at what was advertised as something that it was not, this place meets and exceeds what is revealed on the web site. The cabin is remote(which we prefer) but is close enough to major attractions. We did our first Zip Line(Raven's Rim) in Moab 2 hours away & rode the Durango to Silverton steam engine train. The views from the cabin are incredible & the wild life is abundant, my wife was able to get within 20' of a mule deer buck by following his tracks. This place will always be one of our favorite memories.

There is great hiking on the 80 private acres or drive a few minutes to the head of Sand Canyon and hike into 164,000 acres of public land. This area contains the highest known archaeological density in the United States. Portions of this undeveloped monument have more than 100 cultural sites per square mile-some individual sites cover 10 acres or more. From this location you can go east to Mesa Verde National Park 19 miles away or keep going to Durango 53 miles away. In Durango ride the narrow gauge train to Silverton or have an evening meal at the Bar D Chuckwagon [reservations required]. Travel north out of Durango to Durango Ski Resort, or keep going over the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton and Ouray. Next head to Telluride and ski down the beautiful snow packed slopes at Telluride Ski Resort. You can go south and gamble at the Ute Mountain Casino about 15 miles away. Visit the Ute Mountain Tribal Park where they give guided tours through their Indian ruins.
