Ferntastic

We really enjoyed our week at the Fern Cottage. What a nice place.
Although located in a forest, the cottage is very light.
It has a wood stove which contributes to a romantic atmosphere.
The deerfence was hopeful, but unfortunately we have seen no red or roedeer.
On the other hand, the grounds have plenty of birds and both badger and pine marten came to visit us every evening.
There is a supermarket nearby in Beauly.
We did some nice hikes in the vincinity (saw red deer), visited Ullapool, watched the dolphins at Fortrose and looked for the monster in Loch Ness.
The location of the Fern Cottage makes it an excellent starting-point for exploring this wonderful part of Scotland.
Together with John and Mary's hospitality it is highly recommendable.

The Mist Rises

  • 5 of 5
We spent a lovely week in Fern Cottage and touring around Scotland. What a wonderful spot to call our "home" base. We so enjoyed the scenery and watching the mist float through the hills. There were birds singing to us every morning and evening through our morning coffee into our evening wine. (or whisky tasting). Beauly was a great little town and all the people we met in Scotland were so friendly and the scenery was spectacular. Scotland will have won a part of our heart. We encourage anyone from the US contemplating a trip over to come, it is so GREAT, and our stay at Fern Cottage was fantastic.

A beautifull place

  • 5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful part of Scotland and it was Fern Cottage that made it a really special time for us. This offers superb, comfortable, modern accommodation in a great setting. As a naturalist I really appreciated the bird feeding station that attracted spectacular numbers of bird of many species. Sadly I failed to spot the pine marten that was a regular visitor! Fern Cottage is within easy driving distance of numerous attractions if you enjoy walking and enjoying the scenery and wildlife and also some great pubs and restaurants. I strongly recommend Fern Cottage for an ideal highlands break.
