Perched at the top of a delightful rural wildflower meadow, this waterfront cottage looks across Back River Cove to the unspoiled coastal woodland of the Medomak Valley Land Trust. Great spot for biking, kayaking and canoeing or just relax on our new private float! Interior is classically Maine, with pine floors and walls, picture window views and true cottage atmosphere. Large deck with picnic table, fully equipped kitchen, bath with shower stall, living/dining area, and two bedrooms; one with double bed and one with two twins (can be pushed together). Living area has pullout sofa, radio/tape player, TV/VCR, gas wood stove. Kitchen has microwave, gas stove, lobster pots, etc. Waldoboro is about 4 hours from Boston or 1-1/2 hours from Portland.

There are many attractions within a 30 minute drive. Some include a nature walk at the Audubon Center in Bremen, a ferry from New Harbor to Monhegan Island, a visit to Pemaquid Lighthouse in Bristol or the Jetty Light in Rockland. How about antiquing in the countryside or shopping in the nearby villages of Damariscotta, Round Pond or Friendship? Drive 15 minutes more to Boothbay Harbor or take a tall ship day cruise from Camden. Birding, hiking and bicycle routes are nearby and sheltered water for kayaking and canoeing is a step off the beach. In Rockland visit the Farnsworth Museum and take in the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Visit the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath and Fort Edgecomb near picturesque Wiscasset. There are theater performances all summer in Waldoboro, Damariscotta and other nearby towns. Attend the Wooden Boat Show, The Maine Blues Festival, The Lobster Festival or Boats and Harbor show in Rockland.

Waking up in the early morning light at Blueberry Cottage is more than a thrill- it is always the start of an adventure! What to do today? A hike, a trip to the lighthouse, kayaking, a trip to a nearby cute town for a meal and an explore? All are possibilities. Some days, however, (some of the best ones) are spent just hanging out at the cottage. Good meals with friends and family on the deck rank high on our "favorites" list. At night we enjoy playing cards, figuring out jigsaw puzzles, or competing in board games. The night normally ends with a look up at stars that seem so close you just know you can reach out and touch them. I really can't wait to get back up there!

When my husband and I think vacation, we think Mid-Coast Maine. The drive from Boston is only about 3.5 hours with plenty of places to stop for lunch along the way.

We have stayed in Blueberry and Raspberry cottages and we can't decide which one we like best. Both cottages have everything you need for a comfortable escape. A well equipped kitchen (even lobster tools!), bathrooms, games, and a boom box that plays a great classic rock station (102.5!) The dock is a perfect place to begin a boat ride or to sit, read a book, play a board game, or take a nap. Our dog loves to roam with us through the meadow and slosh through the mud at low tide. We love this feature since it's hard to find dog-friendly digs.

I've rented the cottages for a family getaway and a girls' weekend too. I highly recommend them for both. We've recently had a baby and look forward to bringing her along next time!

Quiet get-a-way w/ access to water and midcoast

My wife and I and our two dogs have spent a week during each of the past two summers at the Back Cove cottages. We plan to return again next summer. No frills (e.g., no TV reception) but, for the weekly rate, these cottages cannot be beat! Very clean, plenty of blankets for cool nights, quiet location, access to Medomak river for kayaking, good roads for walks, and only about 8 miles to route one (and Moody's Diner- great meals and even better deserts) and all that the midcoast has to offer. Convenient to Freeport and Popham beach to the south, Boothbay Harbor, Round Pond (great spot for feasting on lobster and steamers by the harbor), and Rockland and Camden to the north.
