Stress free, beautiful, and perfect for a week (or more) away
We've stayed at the Arches three times over three years and have had the chance to explore St. Martin quite a bit. We keep returning to the Arches for a number of reasons. First, the location and views are perfect. You can get to the busy "touristy" areas near the port and airport in 10-20 minutes, if you have some reason to go there. There are several large grocery stores within a 15 minute drive (keep in mind you are only going 35mph on small roads- the distance is very close and the drive is fairly easy). Of course, you can just go down the hill to a small grocery store with more limited selections.
What sets apart the Arches from other properties is the sense of privacy. The house is secluded and you have a grand view of the harbour and even the adjoining island of St. Barths. Yet, you can be at the french bakery or the creperie in 5 minutes. Also, if you want to avoid people, you have isolated beaches very close by but you can find a "party beach" at Orient Bay in 10 minutes. The best food in the Caribbean can be had in Grand Case, the birthplace of French nuevelle cuisine.
The caretakers do not live onsite, so you have your privacy and they always let you know when they are coming and going.
The house itself is well designed and the kitchen is just like you might have at home. Fully equipped so you can make as grand a meal as your vacation can stand. The house is well suited for a couple or a group and each room has its own private balcony.
The only problem you might have is getting yourself out of the pool to tour the island. And if you don't- you've still spent your time well.
