Puako House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

The voice of the sea awaits you in this charming Puako Beach home which was just remodeled. The ocean sounds will sooth your soul as you sleep. Be mesmerized as you dine on the lanai overlooking the water. The living room has big windows to view the whales in the winter as you lounge comfortably inside. You can see the ocean from every room in the house (except the bathrooms).

Great floor plan separates the two bedrooms with the kitchen and living area. Even as you prepare meals in the kitchen you can view the water and the horizon. Lots of wood makes it feel warm and homey.

Main house has two bedrooms & two baths to accommodate a party of 4 - 5, or add the third bedroom and bath connected by a walkway for an additional couple. Master Bedroom has a queen. The second bedroom has a double and a twin. The third bedroom suite is a queen, also.

Step over the sea wall to your own sandy beach where honu (turtles) often bask in the sun. Enjoy the tropical Hawaiian flowers that flourish in your yard. The grounds are meticulous with Tiare, Pikake and Puakenikeni. The perfect setting for your vacation in paradise.

About Marla or Debbie

AlohaDebbie Properties (R) manages this property on behalf of the owners. We are a mother-daughter team (Debbie & Leilani) and we are here to assist you with the perfect Big Island vacation. We are local residents and live within a few minutes of this property, ready to assist you with any requests during your stay.

Why Marla or Debbie chose Puako

Puako (Pu-ah-ko) is a small, quaint oceanfront community on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island located about 30 miles north of Kailua-Kona and 22 miles north of the Kona airport. The island's largest white sand beach, Hapuna, is right next door.

Puako is conveniently located for visiting all the resort hotels and restaurants on the Kohala Coast. The Mauna Kea, the Fairmont Orchid, the Mauna Lani and Hilton Hotels are just minutes away with their beaches, first class restaurants, shops and world class golf courses. Kohala Divers is nearby at Kawaihae Center, and offers various ocean activities including scuba diving and sunset/afternoon sails. Kawaihae Center and Harbor are just 10 minutes by car, with several great restaurants and shops. You are close to almost any activity you may choose, with the exception of the volcano which is a 3 hour drive from Kohala.

Several fabulous beaches are minutes away. Hapuna Beach (voted best beach in Hawaii by Conde Nast Magazine) and Waialea Bay (Beach 69) both are wonderful for swimming, snorkeling and boogie boarding.

The neighborhood is called Puako, and it is conveniently located for touring all parts of the island. All homes in this neighborhood are on small acreage, so it is a very low density area. Driving time to the Kona airport is approx. 40 minutes, Kailua Kona 50 minutes, Waimea 20 minutes, Hilo 1½ hours, Captain Cook, coffee country, 1¼ hours, Hawi and Polulu Valley 20-30 minutes.

What makes this house unique

The sun shines 355 days per year and the average temperature highs are in the 80's with low's in the 60's. The ocean's edge is about 150 feet from your doorstep with crystal blue water that is 72-76 degrees year round.

Puako offers ideal fishing, snorkeling, diving, surfing and kayaking. Walking and biking is a favorite, too! Sea turtles, dolphins and whales are some of the sea life you may see. Puako offers beach style living and a real sense of getting away from it all.

Puako is rich in Hawaiian history. Walk south along the ocean trail to see the petroglyphs. There are approximately 3,000 petroglyphs scattered throughout the Puako Archaeological Fields. These pictures are etched into the lava rock that dominates the Kohala and Kona Coasts. Access to the Puako Petroglyph Park is through the adjacent Mauna Lani Resort.

The waters around Puako are extremely clear due to the fresh water run off and strong coastal currents. Divers and snorkelers can enjoy waters abundant in sea life along the shallow reef at Puako. The Puako Marine Preserve is a protected environment for endangered sea life. Green sea turtles are a protected species and should not be bothered, only enjoyed and admired. Watch the humpback whales play along the coast. Beyond Puako's reef shelf the whales play and breach during their migration to Hawaii from Alaska. It is quite a sight!

PERFECT

I walked into this home, and my jaw dropped--the same for all four members of my group. The pictures simply do not do it justice. The ocean is EVERYWHERE; it is mesmerizing. In over two decades of visiting Hawaii, and more than double that number of rentals, THIS home is now my absolute favorite--and I've stayed in everything from the Four Seasons Hualalai to the magical tidepool front homes in Kapoho. It is a beautiful old gracious Hawaiian home and its charm was not lost in a thoughtful remodel. The kitchen, with its original cabinets, was more functional and easier to use than any of the high-end modern units I have stayed in. All the furniture is beautiful, but not so fussy or new that we were afraid to put a glass down; the whole house has a cozy, lived-in feeling. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spotless (kudos to Robin, the wonderful housekeeper!). There is a large TV, but we never once turned it on. We spent most of our time on the deck or walking the beach in front of the house. Turtles were sunning themselves everywhere! We counted a group of 11 clustered together one morning. The house is built so that the ocean breezes can blow through and we didn't even need fans at night. But if you must have air conditioning, there is one bedroom in an addition at the back of the house where the AC works spectacularly.

I am already planning a trip back in 2015, hoping that the home will be available. There are so many people with whom I want to share this amazing place. The rental agent has told me the owners are remodeling it again. I sincerely hope that they don't do too much. This house is perfect as it is.

Heaven!

I loved this house, and Leilani (Aloha Debbie, property managers), went above and beyond to make our vacation perfect. My 3 daughters and I arrived to find the house we had rented was not what we imagined. Leilani spoke with me briefly about what we wanted and moved us to this unforgettable house. We were as close to the ocean as one could imagine. Every view was blue water, and we spent every sunset on the porch overlooking the most beautiful scenery. Sea turtles really are everywhere! The house is perfectly designed to allow everyone some space, and the master bedroom was heavenly - I felt like I was camping next to the water, but I was sleeping in a lovely bed with beautiful green plants outside every window. It is uncluttered and simple which allows the ocean to become the centerpiece. Leilani was gracious and accommodating, and she made sure we were happily settled and had everything we needed. I can't thank her enough for her instantaneous response to my first phone call. I miss this house, our time there, and think of it often and hope to return soon. Thank you, Aloha Debbie and Leilani!
