historical information:
This neighborhood was originally developed for and by fishing enthusiasts prior to the 1950's. Many of the houses subsequently incorporated the original fishing houses into their more modern renovation. This house was renovated in the 1950's by the then retiring owner. He and his wife built a large kitchen, a bath and two bedrooms onto the original fishing structure, and added central heating, making it one of the first year-round houses in the neighborhood.
One can identify the original structure by the flooring: cherry wood was used to floor the original, with pine paneling on the walls. The remainder of the house was floored with oak, but again using pine paneling on the walls. While there has been some thoughtful updating, the feeling of the cottage is very true to its time, and so has a very strong feeling of nostalgia!
The location of this neighborhood is now understood to be exceptional for its proximity to the water and its convenient access to culture and tourist attractions in Newport, while keeping the big city hubbub at arm's length. If you would enjoy a vacation that pays homage to a simpler time, this is the place for you
