Overview

Brooklyn Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 5 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 13-15)

Five-bedroom cottage on all-sports Wamplers Lake in the Irish Hills. We are on the eastern shore, which means sandy bottom and spectacular sunsets. Eight-hundred-acre lake is all-sports, ideal for swimming, waterskiing, jetskiing, or just cruising on your pontoon boat. Perfect for kids--water is knee-high on adults even 50 feet out, and the bottom is total sand. Great (stocked) fishing, too, including large and smallmouth bass, pike, and pan fish.

Watch the sun set every evening from our sun porch. At night, roast marshmallows around the firepit as the stars come out over the placid water.

Jerry's Restaurant--famous for its quality and variety--is located on the south shore, a five-minute car ride or two minutes by water. They have evening entertainment many nights during the summer. The cottage is also close to MIS, MSU's Hidden Gardens, Hayes State Park, a handful of antique stores, and several golf and putt-putt courses.

As far as the layout of the house, there are four bedrooms and a half-bath upstairs. Three of the bedrooms have double beds, and the kids room has a twin, a double, and bunks. The fifth bedroom is downstairs (a queen), with extra sleeping available on the sunporch futon. Also downstairs is the main bath with toilet, sink, and shower stall. There is also a living room looking out on the lake, with a gas fireplace.

Bring your own boat or use our pedal boat. Lake access is at Hayes State Park -- just one mile from the cottage.

About Dave

This is our family cottage -- which we dearly love -- and which we're happy to be able to share with other families who enjoy the water and spending time together. We live about an hour from the lake, and spend several weeks here a year. We have two small children (and many nieces and nephews) who have learned to swim and waterski here since we bought the place in 2005. Every year, we try to add something new and better, and every year we have some of the same families come back and stay with us. We're happy to help create wonderful memories for so many!

Dave purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Dave chose Brooklyn

Wamplers Lake is ideal for watersports -- there is almost always a calm spot for skiing. The fishing is plentiful. It is very social and friendly, with people walking up and down Shoreline Drive all day. Jerry's is a great restaurant so close you could almost swim to it. The sunsets are spectacular. The water is clean and warm, and the bottom has no muck. As lake living goes, it has just about everything one could want.

What makes this cottage unique

People love our sunporch. It is large, has a 180 degree view of the lake, and is brightly lit all day long. The cottage itself is vintage, with plenty of character, and we've also recently repainted and wallpapered every surface in the whole place, plus new carpet, new furniture, etc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As our families grow we needed a bigger place and this is perfect. The kids appreciated the toys and we all had a wonderful cozy time.

The best ever of 48 years of cottage rentals.

  • 5 of 5

This is going to be our 6th year at this summer family gathering cottage. We had been going to 2 other lakes for 42 years when the cottage was sold. We went to VRBO to check into other rentals when we came across the Gold Coast Rental #111659. We rented it for A week and my family said this is the best place ever. We ask to book the next year right away and have been there since. It is A cottage with quaint decor. The sunsets are fantastic. The years we had a boat that needed to be anchored down and the owner put in those poles before we arrived so we did not have to worry when we got there. Firewood was available. The neighbors are friendly and we can let the kids play games and ride bikes safely. There is lots of info and telephone # available if there were any problems at all. there is an upstairs half bath and a shower bathroom downstairs. We have never experienced any kind of property problems in the years we have been there, and that is why we keep going back. Also just love the large front room for meals and cooler day board games. I would recommend this cottage to anyone that loves being around water as it has A great Dock and Beach.

A wonderful place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at Mr. McCreedy’s cottage. The location of this cottage is wonderful, close to a carry out/ gas station in case you forgot to bring bread, milk or need to top off your tank. It is also close to several food spots, there is a great little roadside BBQ place just down the road as well as a roadside ice cream stand which gives huge portions. It is about 10 - 15 minutes away from Brooklyn which has several restaurant s, and a good sized grocery store.

The cottage itself is fantastic. It is large and very comfortable. From the moment you enter the cottage you know that this house has been filled with good times and great memories. The back porch has a history of the lakeside milestones of the McCreedy family painted on the walls. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable with hand painted touches found through the entire cottage. Most of our time is spent on the large enclosed front room. It has large windows with screens so you can enjoy views of the lake and get a cooling breeze while relaxing on the couch or grabbing a snack at the dining table. Mr. McCreedy has supplied several fans throughout the cottage to keep you very comfortable. There is a very pleasant patio located out the front door with a table located under a pergola and a new gas grill close by. On the other side of the yard is a glider and bench close to a fire pit for evening camp fires and s’mores.

The kitchen is well equipped with all the utensils, tools, and supplies that you possibly need. There are two refrigerators to hold all your food. There is also a dishwasher to make clean-up a breeze.

The lakefront is grass and sand. The lake bottom is sand and not muck. The lake bottom slopes gradually out to deeper water. This is great for kids of all ages because it is shallow water for a good distance before becoming deeper.

We had a wonderful week with our family, 6 adults and 6 grandchildren, fishing, swimming, boating, and playing games. The McCreedy’s have tried very hard to ensure that you will have a great time while enjoying their lakefront cottage. They have supplied Wi-Fi, T.Vs, an Air Hockey Table, several board games including ones for the kids, and comfortable surroundings. All you have to do is enjoy!

Perfect cottage for our family

  • 5 of 5

We have gone to Wampler's Lake for the last 8 years and plan to do so for many more. Our three children and their families all stay with us and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, beach and everything else about this cottage. There are many games and toys the kids can play with and plenty of life preservers for those that need them. We have so many wonderful family memories and can't wait to have more. This is the best place to have a family vacation!

The pictures are deceiving!

  • 2 of 5

Although our extended family did enjoy ourselves during our stay, I feel there are a few aspects of the property that should be brought to renter's attention:

The shower in the bathroom is very small.

Lighting was an issue for us. The light in the bathroom did not work when we got there. The light fixture in the kitchen fell in the middle of the night and shattered.

THE WALLS OF THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS DO NOT GO TO THE CEILING. There is very little to no privacy upstairs.

THE DOCK IS IN NEED OF REPAIR. Ont he first day of our trip my husband fell through the dock and injured his leg. We were nervous the rest of the trip about our kids playing on the dock.

Owner's Response: The last thing we want is renters who are disappointed at what they find when they arrive, and so we try our absolute best to accurately describe, in words and photos, what our cottage is like. This is the first time in 10 years of renting that anyone has even mentioned the walls upstairs, but yes, it is true that while they are full-height, the ceiling is open at the top. We find that, with fans on, there is not a problem with noise, but I can understand how this might be an issue for some. As for the dock, the older sections have been replaced for 2015. Over the years, the comment we have received most from our renters is that the cottage is even better than the pictures. That is our goal -- we want folks who stay with us to be pleasantly surprised when they arrive -- at the cleanliness of the cottage, at the little touches and improvements we try to make every year, and at the overwhelming beauty of the lake. And in the few times that there has been an issue, we go out of our way to try to make things right.

I have stayed here for the past 3 years. I love this cottage on the lake! It is always clean. My family of 10 comes with me & my husband for a total of 12 stay here to go to the Nascar race. This cottage sits beautifully on the lake that has a fantastic sunset.

Spacious cottage that fit our group perfectly. Kids loved the shallow water and sandy bottom lake. Beautiful sunset. Everyone had a great time!
