The delightful market town of Wirksworth is only six miles from Matlock. It is a charming town with many fine architectural buildings, and a majestic parish church. There are ancient ‘jitties' and courtyards to be explored, ‘jitties' being an old term for pedestrian footpaths. The nearby countryside is beautiful and there are many pursuits on offer such as rock climbing cycling and walking. Carsington water and the High Peak Trail are also close by and Matlock offers the visitor a wide variety of places to eat and shopping opportunities. Chatsworth House and the halls of Hardwick and Haddon are within easy driving distance, as is Matlock Bath and its spectacular cable car ride to the ‘Heights of Abraham.' Wirksworth is a fabulous base for a great holiday.
