FARMHOUSE (SLEEPS 6). 3 BEDROOMS)

Tremp Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

A fully licensed 3 bedroom Catalan farmhouse and 2 bedroom cottage which can be linked. A picturesque walled courtyard has shared but private access to both properties. Situated in the village of Santa Engracia at 1000m the property overlooks the town of Tremp and beautiful mountain scenery. Sports available nearby include swimming in the nearby lake, white water rafting, quad biking, riding, climbing, hang gliding, mountain biking as well as bird watching and wildlife to see. Free wi-fi.

The Rough Guide to the Pyrenees describes Santa Engracia as ‘surely the most spectacularly set village in Catalunya’. It is impressively situated on a rocky outcrop above the town of Tremp, providing magnificent views of mountains and lakes. Casa Mauri has been renovated to provide modern facilities whilst retaining the original farmhouse character of exposed beams and contrasting stone and white-plastered walls. Both apartments are fully licensed by the tourist board and have passed all health and safety requirements. The region is a wildlife paradise with a wide range of birds, wild flowers and butterflies. It is an ideal place to experience many outdoor adventures. Casa Mauri was featured in Ed Docx's full page article in the Sunday Express travel section of 20 August 2000 and in a 3 page article in Issue 2 (Feb/March 2004) of the magazine 'Spanish Magazine' describing the range of walks in the area around Santa Engracia and featuring a number of colour photos. The perfect 'getaway' holiday.

Santa Engracia is situated 10km from the main road and is reached via a tarmac country road that climbs up to the village. Access to the village houses is pedestrianised. Parking is off-road at the entrance to the village. There is then a 300m walk uphill along what was originally a mule track but is now a wide paved street. The owner lives adjacent to the properties and can help you with your luggage if arriving at a reasonable hour (the owner has a small quad bike with trailer for transporting luggage to the house). She will be available to give help and advice at any time. The properties were specifically renovated and equipped for holiday rentals.

The owner is registered with and approved by the Catalan authorities. Although the 2 properties are situated around the same courtyard they are completely independent. The farmhouse faces away from the cottage and no noise is transmitted between the two.

Further Details:

The lakes below the village offer swimming and water sports. The small town of Sort (Catalan for luck), to the north of Tremp, is a centre for a range of outdoor sports including white water rafting, kayaking, quad biking, and riding.

The region is ideal walking country. The former owners were keen walkers and have written a guide to walks from the village and around the Tremp valley for the use of guests. The region is home to a wide variety of birds and butterflies, and the wild flowers here and in the Pyrenees are a beauty to behold in the spring time and through to early summer. The Aiguestortes National Park is 1.5 hours drive from the village and the duty free principality of Andorra 2 hours away. The local scenery is stunning with a number of spectacular gorges and dramatic escarpments. The area is a well-known Mecca for rock climbers, Terradets, Collagets, Vilanova de Meia and Santa Linya all within 45 mins.

Catalonia is famous for its Romanesque architecture, churches, castles and towers. In cretaceous times the region bordered the Atlantic and dinosaurs have left their mark in the shores with footprints and large finds of fossilised eggs.

The Catalan people are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Full shopping facilities can be found in Tremp which has a pedestrianised old town with traces of the old town walls and towers and a newer section with a tree lined rambla where cafe tables and chairs are shaded from the sun from spring through to autumn. The market in Tremp is on Monday mornings, with a market in Sort on Tuesday and in La Pobla de Segur on Wednesday. Eating out in the region is very reasonably priced. Typically, a 3 course meal (menu dia) of Catalan specialities including wine costs around 10-12 euros, though there are places where you can eat very well for less. A selection of local tapas also makes a very tasty and filling lunch.

CASA MAURI

An absolutely beautiful farmhouse, in one of the most picturesque places I've visited. A perfect getaway and a ideal base for climbing in the lleida province. All topped off by a warm welcome and the most friendliest of hosts.

It's a must visit.

HOUSE ABOVE THE CLOUDS

  • 5 of 5
The property was exactly as described - well maintained and fitted out. The location is beautiful - on top of a rock with great views. In the mornings the valley below (and the town of Tremp) is covered by cloud while we were above the clouds in brilliant sunshine. The only downside is that you have to walk a short distance up the hill to the apartment as the road is too narrow for a car. However, Jane has a quod bike and trailer so the luggage was carried to the door.
The location is a 10 minute drive from Tremp so a car is useful. I was bird watching and walking. The party in the other apartment were climbers. Vultures and Eagles soar around the property - it is strange looking down on these birds as they hunt in the valley below. There are good restaurants in Tremp and a supermarket for eating at home.
