Hugging the border of Parsons Green is a home very nearly as leafy. Refurbished root and branch, this family townhouse has grown in stature as well as style, its eye-catching rooms reaching below and behind. Florals enliven the bedrooms, yellow cushions burst from the sitting room’s green, green palette, and any topiarist would be impressed by the shape of the chandeliers – which trail like dangling vines from lofty ceilings. But a closer look reveals just a few man-made flourishes: the bathroom’s metro tiles, a seemingly endless staircase, the kitchen’s steel-framed Crittall doors. And the boutiques of Fulham and Chelsea, just a short hike away.

Field notes

Your host overhauled Parsons Green himself, adding space, brightness and armfuls of character. He lives with his wife, his three children and their hypoallergenic dog – all of whom up sticks for the Isle of Skye every summer.

Green peace

Deceptively deep, this ample home makes the most of its acreage. A bay-windowed hallway draws you into the brilliantly refurbished kitchen, all skylights, shimmering white marble, and mid-century dining chairs set at a jaunty angle. Glass doors let the garden’s green light filter in, but before you step outside, you might choose between the two very different sitting rooms. The upper is bright green and delicately detailed, the lower slouchy and contemporary. And with their natural tones and rich wallpaper, the bedrooms are always bursting into flower. Set across a whole floor, you’d be forgiven for missing the master suite’s secret door to the bathroom, disguised as a bookshelf.

Glossy-maned girls and boys spend weekend afternoons making pavement cafés look positively continental, while their parents partake of lunch at the aristocratic Hurlingham Club – where the waiting list for membership currently averages at 15 years.

A big buzz also surrounds the upcoming Mile High pop-ups, with themed evenings from the Templeton family of restaurateurs throughout the year. Other fresh-faced talents can be found at the Studio 106 Art Gallery, a commendable not-for-profit organisation that promotes the bright young things of SW6 in frequent exhibitions.

The appeal of the enclave is bringing in the developers, with hundreds of new homes being built during 2013, concentrated at Chelsea Creek and Fulham Riverside, formerly Fulham Wharf. All of which will make this sometimes patchy riverside territory into an attractive habitat, raising Fulham yet another rung on the ladder to London stardom.
