Outside, birds trill from the treetops in the serene square gardens, inside all is peace. Spread over three floors, glowing with natural light and vibrant with character, Grafton Square is like the very best of small, exclusive hotels; reassuringly plush and intriguingly personal.

In good taste

Begin in the cheerful open plan living area, where the kitchen’s as warm and spicy as the contents of the chilli jar. Eat atop the glass table, or head next door and into the enticing embrace of the sitting room. With three couches and some riotously colourful cushions, you won’t know where to collapse first.

The family bathroom is a sunny daffodil yellow, and upstairs you’ll find the master bedroom’s generously sized, and filled with some luscious antique furniture. There’s no garden, but with an archetypical London square right outside your front door, you’ll have as much green space as you could possibly want.

But it’s after dark that the area comes into its own, for here’s a restaurant and bar scene to rival the centre of town. Clapham Common’s the ideal spot for a picnic, and, if you want to go and tell the rest of London’s residents what they’re missing, you can be in zone one in less than half an hour.

Guests who may be accustomed to more lavish surroundings, may find the bathroom decor and kitchen appliances a little dated. That said, this is a very charming and spacious home. This home is suitable for a couple to go exploring London, but is not suitable for any children. This lovely home is set over three floors, so there are a few stairs to negotiate.
