Romantic getaway, fabulous ocean views, lovely town, shops, restaurants, and two very nice grocery stores. Light house tours daily, 15 minutes north at Point Arena. Fabulous old refurbished theater. Point Arena also has a small wharf with restaurant and shops. Whale watching in December and January.
thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your lovely home! we are from Louisiana and flew in to San Franscisco rented a car to drive to Portland , this was such a treat to stay here on our way north thanks again Rev Ken Norton ,Pat and daughter Beth Sept 10th 06
Returned to the sun room house for another stay and fell in love with it all over again. This house has the perfect view, in a great location and as comfortable as being in my own home. Elsie was once again very kind and accommodating.
I was up the North Coast for an abalone diving trip with my father and brother for Fathers Day and we are glad we found the Sunroom house to stay in. It was a perfect location for where we dive, easy to walk into town for anything we need, but plenty of privacy. I don't think we saw anyone else even driving a car past the house. Elsie had the house in great shape for our trip. House was clean, great view, amazing steam shower that was just the ticket after spending time in the cold water on a windy, rough day. We will definitely be back.
Nothing! Absolutely nothing beats eating in the Sun Room watching sunsets! My wife loves the huge walk-in shower with the 'rain' shower head. And Golfers heads up! The Sea Ranch Golf Course is a beautiful, challenging links course. Be sure to check out the Surf Market for daily fresh bread. The Sun Room is our favorite home away from home. Love it!
I booked this last minute for New Year's Eve. I'm writing this review from the table in the sunroom. It is the best place to sit in the morning to read or do any kind of work. Beautiful view, great lighting. This is an extemely comfortable home. Lights where you need them, ample space for setting things down, making food, having quiet while others are having fun, simply amazing shower and steam room etc. Elsie and Ken are available, helpful and respectful of your privacy. We'll be back. Thank you so much!! Ps ...great, easy location too.
A friend and I stayed at Sunroom House mid-week and were lucky enough to get beautiful weather! This is rare on the coast in summer, and we fully appreciated it. On top of that, there are some wonderful reasons to choose Sun House: they not only accept dogs, they welcome them, and they don't charge extra for these pets! I have stayed in dozens of VRBO places, and most either won't allow pets or charge extra for them. It should be noted that dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms, which have wall to wall carpeting. We were told that if the dogs slept in the bedroom, all the bedding would have to be washed, even though the dogs would only be on their own mattress on the floor, not on the bed itself. I was worried that the dogs would whine or scratch at the door if kept out, but they were fine. If it were my place, I'd take up the carpets, which are badly stained anyway, and put in wood or laminate flooring, with some fluffy (and washable) area rugs.
Another important plus in this house: the kitchen is fully equipped. Ken and Elsie make every effort to help you live as if you were in your own beach house! Sunroom "House", however, is a bit of a misnomer. Sunroom House sits halfway down a steep hill between Highway 1 and the Pacific, in a cosy neighborhood of large houses on large lots, all with spectacular views of the ocean. When you rent Sunroom House you are not really renting an entire house. You get the upstairs apartment of a duplex of sorts, the downstairs unit being rented out long term. This means a certain lack of privacy and an awareness that the people downstairs can hear your every clomp and yak. Currently the downstairs is rented by a really nice couple, however, who are generally not there on weekends.
Aside from that, Sunroom House is large and comfortable, with two bedrooms and two baths, connected by a laundry room with a wonderful shower/steam room in it. All the rooms have ocean views, and are spacious and comfortable. And Gualala is well situated on the Sonoma/Mendocino coast, within easy reach of beaches, restaurants, and art galleries in little towns from Jenner to Ft. Bragg. A wonderful place!
The home is great, equipped with most everything you need. If you need more things, you're walking distance to town. The shower has a steamer, so you can have a steam to relax and just let go. At some point, you'll need to just sit on the front deck and just take in the view of the Pacific Ocean. In the morning, deer often pass through the tall grassy area next door. This is the place you want to be. Great place, great price, great people - what more can you ask for?
