Guestbook comments from the owner
Hi, I am Francesca and my husband is Petros. We are both university professors, with a 32 year old son, his wife and our two younger sons -- Alex and Angelos-- ages: 6 and 8!! We have been coming to Martha's Vineyard since we married -- 35 years ago -- as students we slept in a tent and fell in love with MV. We eventually "grew up" and had children, and vowed to spend every summer we could on the island -- if even for a short time -- for family time and reunions. As our family grew, the tent went into storage, and we then faced the dilemma of seeking out prohibitively costly MV hotels or resorts. We needed a cost effective and efficient way to insure everyone in our family would have a comfortable bed and bedding; at least a 3 bedroom home with a beautiful and right sized kitchen with all working appliances; an excellent outdoor space, so the children were free to run, without fear of oncoming traffic, and a beach area -- we could all use on a daily basis. Greg and Martha’s home on MV fulfilled all these needs and more: a huge beautiful outdoor deck to read a novel or newspaper, watch the kids, have an evening cocktail, or morning coffee; while overlooking the spacious and shaded park-like yard. The location of this home provided us with incredible privacy; while only being a short walk to the library, supermarket, and bakery in W. Tisbury and a very short ride to the “Trustee’s Beach” (provided by the owners’ permission sticker). The incredibly beautiful sand dunes and ocean breezes on this beach are incomparable on MV, it is a private and hidden treasure and even though different, as beautiful as the beaches on the Greek island where we live for 3 months out of the year. It is difficult to rent a house sight unseen and it feels “risky.” We have had problems in the past on MV with homes we rented: water in the basement, broken appliances, poor and unkept house conditions. And with a limited budget, it is not an easy task to find such a beautiful home as the Hayes home. Greg and Martha's home is in W. Tisbury, which my husband and I call, “the Upper West Side of MV.” Gay Head, Menemsha are just a short car ride away. We had the most wonderful family reunion and summer vacation here, and we will return! And my 6 year old wants to say that the “automatic” reclining chair in the Hayes’ living room is awesome! Highly recommended.
