VERY HAPPY OVERALL!

  • 5 of 5
This is a huge place on a wonderful Island. We came here for a two week family reunion and though it was rainy, we still found fun things to do. The large main floor of the house is lovely and the kitchen on the larger side is well organized, it really wants for nothing, all the appliances, gadgets and large pots and pans-- everything you need is in there. The smaller addition and upstairs definitely have a more lived-in feel. The weather was unseasonably muggy for Maine a few of the nights we were there and we did wish there were more fans to stay comfortable. After making this known to the agent, when we didn't hear back on it and we did end up purchasing a couple of fans. (Which we took when we left.) That would be my only complaint.
The grounds are gorgeous, with many mature plantings, we all really adored the huge front porch-- weather permitting, we often cooked and ate outdoors and just took in the views off the water. The sunsets and sunrise really were spectacular.
Finally, it was an excellent value for a property of this size. There aren't any sandy beaches in the immediate area for swimming so plan to drive a bit if that is on your agenda. Apparently there is a local issue with some homeowners and the town around access to one--hopefully for the sake of the local economy-- that will get resolved in the town's favor. The adults in our group didn't mind it much, however, the younger children were wanting to go swimming and we'd have to drive a bit to get to a nice beach for swimming. We went kayaking and on the Ferry boat, we had a fantastic lobster dinner at ESTE'S LOBSTER HOUSE, Cook's lobster house is very nearby, and enjoys a great reputation, and it is just a stone's throw away, but on the 4rth of July, our eldest family member wanted to see fireworks and we came upon Este's Lobster house. These people (the owners, who live next door) were truly wonderful and gracious. They set off some fireworks just for us and invited us (total strangers) right in their yard. We were amazed at the genuine hospitality they extended to us. So of course, we decided that we wanted to have our big dinner out at Este's Lobster House-- and it was a really memorable event for all, the food was fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this rental for any large family reunion, the house is a fun place to stay, if your looking for a pristine hotel-like home though, keep looking. This is more home-like and doesn't have the sorts of amenities you'd find in a hotel.
