As a lifelong Maryland resident, I have enjoyed the many recreational opportunities available in my home state--its ocean resorts, cultural and historic events, mountains, rivers and bays. But there's something special about Deep Creek Lake-living here is a year-round vacation experience. I can't imagine a better place to be anytime of year!!
Cynthia Harden purchased this townhome in 2006
I purchased this unit with families in mind. It can be a challenge to take a whole family on a vacation--between gas at $3+/gallon, hotel, meals, snacks, souvenirs, activity fees, and those last minute emergency sunscreen purchases, the costs for a family vacation can really add up. With the economy in flux, my goal is to provide an affordable opportunity for families to relax in a beautiful and fun-filled 4-season vacation destination. Every season here is a good one, with something interesting to do no matter the time of year. As a teacher for over 20 years, , I love children and so this privately owned home rents only to families. We have plenty of movies and games, and there's so much to do, or you can do nothing at all but sit on the couch and relax.
1 mile from Wisp and the Outdoor Adventure Center....or, leave the unit, turn left, walk up the parking lot and you'll be at the Black Bear Tavern/Smiley's Pizza/The Pine Lodge Restaurant....seeing the skiers and the night lights of Wisp from the living room slider windows...watching 4th of July fireworks at Wisp from the deck...cozy fireplace with free, unlimited firewood...walking distance to the Santa Fe Grille, Ledo's Pizza...our completely renovated year-round indoor heated pool-- very few other communities can offer this amenity....less than a mile to full-service Shop n Save grocery...slipping your kayak in at the community 'beach'/pier....Wine Festival, County Fair, Autumn Glory Festival, Holiday Lights...Lakeside Creamery for the best ice cream around (yes, it's a little more expensive, but it's homemade with real cream from real cows...), 1 mile to County Fairgrounds, and so much more....
I stayed at this home over the Labor day weekend. As a teacher, my family does not have a lot of extra money for vacations or weekends away. This home was perfect for my budget...I rented directly through the owner, who allowed me to use either a personal check or pay through Paypal, a secure site. The home was perfectly appointed, and the air conditioning was a great amenity. We did not use the indoor community pool because we were able to go to the State Park and use the "beach" that is there, but we thought the heated pool would be a great activity in the fall and winter. The home was fully stocked with all cooking supplies and having the paper/cleaning products there--TP, paper towels, dishwasher and regular dish soap, trash bags, laundry soap, etc., made our packing much easier. There are many local moderately-priced restaurants--Santa Fe Grille, Ledo's Pizza, Black Bear Tavern (we walked to this), Perkins... We had a great time and can't wait to return.
The property itself was extremely nice. For the price - you can't beat it. It was perfect and just what we were looking for. However, the cleanliness of the place, was disappointing. Cobwebs covered walls in two of the bedrooms and it appeared as if it had not been dusted/cleaned in weeks. The condo was infested with ants....They were everywhere. We noticed them all over the kitchen table the first night and then all over the kitchen the following day. They were all over the furniture - crawling all over us while watching tv. We have a 9 month old that we couldn't allow to crawl on the floor because of them. The carpet looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed in some time with pieces of potato chips all over the place. We didn't spend much time in the condo nor did we ever eat it in so we were still pleased with our visit. Like I said, you can't beat the price.
We had a lovely time at this property. The owner stocked it very thoughtfully. There is a nice view of the mountain and easy access to the lake. Great value.
Our extended family had a great weekend in this awesome condo. Owner Cindy has thought of everything one could want or need for a family weekend! Our kids loved all the books and games, and the adults loved all the room for everyone! Overall, we all found this condo to be everything we needed and more!! Highly recommend it!
Reason I did not rate it a 5 is due to the grill not being clean and cigarette ashes and buds left in a container on the balcony. That wasn't clean at all. Other than that everything was in place, clean and acceptable.
Our family very much enjoyed Rudy's Retreat for a winter getaway weekend. The property is as described. It was clean and had ample space. The kids loved the bunk room and the loft. The indoor pool was a nice amenity for the kids. The location is ideal for Wisp activities, just minutes to the parking lot. The owner was easy to deal with and very responsive to emails with our questions. We would recommend this rental to friends looking for an inexpensive rental.
