Overview

Asheville House Rental Photos and Description

Rental Home - 3 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 6)

Stoneybrook is an extraordinary property that has numerous streams with massive stands of laurel and lush foliage bordered and protected by the US Forest Service. Enjoy walking the nature trails with unusual native wild flowers and an awesome stand of trees of many varieties (some of which are marked and identified... one hickory tree is estimated to be 150 years old).

The very spacious 24 by 28 feet outdoor pavilion with a stone fireplace is a favorite gathering place for each guest. Imagine a romantic evening listening to the crackling fire with your love, regardless of the weather or curl up with a good book while listening to the beautiful song birds and the babbling brooks.

We provide many magazines for your reading enjoyment. You will find many books with points of interest of this area and games and such for children. Provided are two mountain bikes for your pleasure.

The Vineyard with hardwood floors, cathedral ceiling, skylight windows, and cable television. Brookside offers hardwood floors, natural finish tongue and groove pine board paneling decorated in nature wood motif. The Nantucket says it all. It has its own skylight bathroom and is decorated to match its name. The cottage, according to many guests, has more to offer than just being a great vacation spot. It is nestled on 3.2 acres bordering Mount Pisgah National Forest and it is located only 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Each of the three bedrooms and 2 baths have been totally remodeled...hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings, skylight windows, tongue and groove pine paneling are some of the unique features. Snuggling in comfortable beds as the Katydids sing you to sleep is a dream come true! Beds are 1 king size and two full size beds with luxury bedding for your comfort.

Where Heaven and Nature Sing!

  • 5 of 5
We first met Ruby and Elmer in 2009 when we came to Asheville and rented another property in the area. Stoneybrook was actually our first choice but the lovely cottage was reserved for the weeks we wanted in the Fall of 2009. When we arrived, the other property was - for lack of a better word - a disaster. We ended up in a hotel. While there, we called and spoke to Ruby. She said Stoneybrook was rented, but gave us the address so we could drive by and keep it in mind for the future. We made reservations twice in 2010 but had to postpone both times. Ruby and Elmer were wonderful about both cancellations.
In 2012 our family suffered a tragedy in the sudden loss of our beloved Son. We could not see very far into the future. This year we decided to try a take a few steps forward and come back to Asheville. We knew we wanted to stay at Stoneybrook. The cottage is much more than a "house". Ruby and Elmer have made it a home to us - though we'd never set foot on the property. They are both so warm and friendly and put their hearts into every part of Stoneybrook.
The cottage sits in an idyllic spot. The National Forest is directly behind the cottage with a path leading into the woods. You can hear the brook from the cottage. At night you can actually see the stars! Not only from the great zero gravity lounge chairs outside - but also from the skylights and large windows inside. The cottage is equipped with everything that you need to make your stay perfect. Ruby decorated the cottage for Autumn and it was simply beautiful. There are even live plants inside the cottage and resident Cardinals who come sit on the window ledges! The pavilion - with its fireplace - is amazing. Elmer had all the wood and kindling stacked neatly. We built many fires and sat out for hours enjoying the lovely glow.
Meeting Ruby and Elmer was such a rewarding experience. Elmer stopped by one afternoon when he saw us outside. He played a song on his Mandolin in memory of our Son. We will never forget how beautiful it was - as though the Heaven's sent a Christmas lullaby down through the forest, just for us.
We are returning for Christmas. Ruby and Elmer decorate for every season - so when we return, Stoneybrook will be decorated for Christmas. This will be the first Christmas tree we have had since before our Son died. Stoneybrook is gently helping us on our grief journey to discover what our new normal is. With love and gratitude -JWJ

Owner's Response: Jennifer & Jimmy, both Ruby's & my heart were deeply touch when we read your beautiful review. We try to be as kind and hospitable to all our guest that stay at StoneyBrook, but without ever being intrusive to any one's privacy. It is amazing how many times we have corresponded before we actually met in person. Meeting you both was our pleasure and we consider you family. We were happy to give you the drive by address of StoneyBrook to view our property all though it was occupied by guest and you could not view inside. As far as having to cancel twice prior to your visit we completely understand people have events that are out of their control. As we remember you got back to Scotland and your daughter had the wonderful news that she was getting married. We were so happy for you and your family. Then in 2012 we were so saddened by the lost of your beloved son William. You have no way of knowing, but we said many prayers for you both as you traveled this path of grief and loss. We feel it was not by chance that you booked again and our path crossed and we finally met. We were happy to know StoneyBrook has been a part in your healing process. We hope this will be one of many returns now that Jimmy has retired.
With Grateful Hearts Elmer & Ruby.

Beautifully kept home is a jewel!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second visit to Stoneybrook and each visit gets better! The owners work very hard to keep the place in pristine condition and it is always clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The outdoor pavilion with a nice fire made a great place to relax after spending the day hiking the nearby parkway or touring Asheville. We really enjoyed this home and we are making this visit a family tradition!

Our BEST VRBO rental so far!

  • 5 of 5
We try to rent VRBO homes whenever we can for our vacations and, over the years, have stayed at a good many. All have been acceptable, some have been a notch above, but this one is the best we have rented so far!
The home itself is wonderful, even better than what you see in the photos. Tastefully and thoughtfully decorated with a feeling that you have “just come home.” Anything that you could possible want or need for a comfortable stay has been provided by the owners and it is extremely clean. The pavilion is a wonderful place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing and the grounds are just as lovely as the house. It is very quiet, with only an occasional car driving past, but no heavy traffic noise at all. I usually use a sound machine when I travel to block out noise, but I didn’t turn it on once in the 5 days we were here!
Stoneybrook is perfectly located for a short drive into Asheville and Biltmore. Entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is very close and, in a 30-40 minute drive you can visit Brevard and the amazing waterfalls of Transylvania county.
The owner is quick to communicate with you and makes the rental process a breeze. We had the pleasure of meeting him in person and he is a very nice man who genuinely wants to be sure your stay is just perfect.
I will recommend this rental to family and friends...just as long as they don’t interfere with any of OUR planned return visits!
Thank you, Elmer, for sharing your wonderful home with us.

We are glad you found it to be more than it is advertised to be and we were delighted you didn't have to use your sound machine to block out noise. This is a quite peaceful valley. You are most welcome any time we will be happy to have you as one of our many, many returning guest or as family as we like to call them. Best wishes for the up coming holiday season God Bless you. sincerely Elmer & Ruby

Wonderful Weekend Visit

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend (May 2-5, 2014) at Stoneybrook Cottage. The cottage, outdoor pavilion and grounds are lovely and very well maintained. The cottage was immaculate, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. To be honest, although the pictures on the website of the cottage and grounds are lovely, we felt it was even nicer than we had anticipated! It was the perfect place to stay when we met our daughter and her boyfriend, from the Raleigh-Durham area, for a weekend to explore a bit of the Asheville area. We enjoyed the waterfalls hikes in Dupont State Forest and we toured the Biltmore Estate. We hope to return as there are many more hikes we'd like to do, and we will definitely ask to stay here again! Thank you for sharing this lovely place!
