Stoneybrook is an extraordinary property that has numerous streams with massive stands of laurel and lush foliage bordered and protected by the US Forest Service. Enjoy walking the nature trails with unusual native wild flowers and an awesome stand of trees of many varieties (some of which are marked and identified... one hickory tree is estimated to be 150 years old).
The very spacious 24 by 28 feet outdoor pavilion with a stone fireplace is a favorite gathering place for each guest. Imagine a romantic evening listening to the crackling fire with your love, regardless of the weather or curl up with a good book while listening to the beautiful song birds and the babbling brooks.
We provide many magazines for your reading enjoyment. You will find many books with points of interest of this area and games and such for children. Provided are two mountain bikes for your pleasure.
The Vineyard with hardwood floors, cathedral ceiling, skylight windows, and cable television. Brookside offers hardwood floors, natural finish tongue and groove pine board paneling decorated in nature wood motif. The Nantucket says it all. It has its own skylight bathroom and is decorated to match its name. The cottage, according to many guests, has more to offer than just being a great vacation spot. It is nestled on 3.2 acres bordering Mount Pisgah National Forest and it is located only 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Each of the three bedrooms and 2 baths have been totally remodeled...hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings, skylight windows, tongue and groove pine paneling are some of the unique features. Snuggling in comfortable beds as the Katydids sing you to sleep is a dream come true! Beds are 1 king size and 1 queen and 1 full size beds with luxury bedding for your comfort.
It is so rare that you can experience something that is far beyond your expectations. Stoneybrook is exactly that. The house and property are beautiful and lovingly cared for. They truly have thought of everything to make your stay complete. Going out to the pavilion has become our new catch phrase meaning time to relax. It is well stocked with firewood and kindling and if you use all of that there is more in the garage. All we had to do was light it our first night and we had a wonderful fire. And having the outside speakers you can listen to your own music. Beware though, it is so peaceful that the sounds of the birds and the creek make it difficult to interrupt natures music. My wife and sister spent hours walking the property and noting all of the beautiful plants and flowers. Elmer stopped by one day and gave them an informative tour and told them they could have cuttings of some of the plants. Talk about making their day!! It never feels like you are renting a place but more like you have been invited to stay with friends. The kitchen has everything you need but food. Nice Washer and dryer, soap etc. We just spent a week at Stoneybrook and missed it the minute we left but we will return. If you are looking for a place to just get away or are planning to visit Asheville this is the place to stay. Make sure to take the road up to the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a meal and sit a spell in their rockers. We did not get to meet Ruby but Elmer told us better than I could eversay it " just consider this your house in the mountains" And that is exactly how you feel about Stoneybrook. Please treat it kindly until we can get back. Thanks Elmer & Ruby.
Joy! Joy! Joy! As I leave Stoneybrook with my 4 Beet Friends; I can say everything was fantastic! The owners have taken time to ensure every single detail at the cottage is clean and convenient. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. I will go back! No one could ask for anything better! Thank for sharing your lovely cottage with us!
We first met Ruby and Elmer in 2009 when we came to Asheville and rented another property in the area. Stoneybrook was actually our first choice but the lovely cottage was reserved for the weeks we wanted in the Fall of 2009. When we arrived, the other property was - for lack of a better word - a disaster. We ended up in a hotel. While there, we called and spoke to Ruby. She said Stoneybrook was rented, but gave us the address so we could drive by and keep it in mind for the future. We made reservations twice in 2010 but had to postpone both times. Ruby and Elmer were wonderful about both cancellations.
In 2012 our family suffered a tragedy in the sudden loss of our beloved Son. We could not see very far into the future. This year we decided to try a take a few steps forward and come back to Asheville. We knew we wanted to stay at Stoneybrook. The cottage is much more than a "house". Ruby and Elmer have made it a home to us - though we'd never set foot on the property. They are both so warm and friendly and put their hearts into every part of Stoneybrook.
The cottage sits in an idyllic spot. The National Forest is directly behind the cottage with a path leading into the woods. You can hear the brook from the cottage. At night you can actually see the stars! Not only from the great zero gravity lounge chairs outside - but also from the skylights and large windows inside. The cottage is equipped with everything that you need to make your stay perfect. Ruby decorated the cottage for Autumn and it was simply beautiful. There are even live plants inside the cottage and resident Cardinals who come sit on the window ledges! The pavilion - with its fireplace - is amazing. Elmer had all the wood and kindling stacked neatly. We built many fires and sat out for hours enjoying the lovely glow.
Meeting Ruby and Elmer was such a rewarding experience. Elmer stopped by one afternoon when he saw us outside. He played a song on his Mandolin in memory of our Son. We will never forget how beautiful it was - as though the Heaven's sent a Christmas lullaby down through the forest, just for us.
We are returning for Christmas. Ruby and Elmer decorate for every season - so when we return, Stoneybrook will be decorated for Christmas. This will be the first Christmas tree we have had since before our Son died. Stoneybrook is gently helping us on our grief journey to discover what our new normal is. With love and gratitude -JWJ
This was our second visit to Stoneybrook and each visit gets better! The owners work very hard to keep the place in pristine condition and it is always clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The outdoor pavilion with a nice fire made a great place to relax after spending the day hiking the nearby parkway or touring Asheville. We really enjoyed this home and we are making this visit a family tradition!
We try to rent VRBO homes whenever we can for our vacations and, over the years, have stayed at a good many. All have been acceptable, some have been a notch above, but this one is the best we have rented so far!
The home itself is wonderful, even better than what you see in the photos. Tastefully and thoughtfully decorated with a feeling that you have “just come home.” Anything that you could possible want or need for a comfortable stay has been provided by the owners and it is extremely clean. The pavilion is a wonderful place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing and the grounds are just as lovely as the house. It is very quiet, with only an occasional car driving past, but no heavy traffic noise at all. I usually use a sound machine when I travel to block out noise, but I didn’t turn it on once in the 5 days we were here!
Stoneybrook is perfectly located for a short drive into Asheville and Biltmore. Entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is very close and, in a 30-40 minute drive you can visit Brevard and the amazing waterfalls of Transylvania county.
The owner is quick to communicate with you and makes the rental process a breeze. We had the pleasure of meeting him in person and he is a very nice man who genuinely wants to be sure your stay is just perfect.
I will recommend this rental to family and friends...just as long as they don’t interfere with any of OUR planned return visits!
Thank you, Elmer, for sharing your wonderful home with us.
