About Carolyn & Terry ONeill

Terry and Carolyn O'Neill, Big Sky, Montana residents for 22 years.

Carolyn & Terry ONeill purchased this house in 1991

Why Carolyn & Terry ONeill chose Big Sky

Terry and I were on our way to Yellowstone National Park when we spent the night in Big Sky, Montana. Needless to say, the next day was a glorious July day and we immediately fell in love with Big Sky. After extending our stay another 4 days, we began planning our next trip to Montana to ski Lone Mountain. That January we knew it had won our hearts and we began our search for the perfect property. In 1991 we purchased our thirteen acre paradise on the Gallatin River. It was the best decision we have ever made!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

It will be hard to leave tomorrow!! This is definitely God's country!! Everyday has a highlight. My favorite part was early mornings in the nice, warm hot tub with my eyes shut listening to the river roar through and listening to the birds. Also, taking nap outside on the lounge chair wrapped up in a blanket. We also invited Carolyn & Terry over for dinner...being the gourmet chef my husband fixed an outstanding meal of salmon, shrimp, trout, chicken, potatoes, beans followed by a bottle of wine. It was such a blessing to have them over. Very, very beautiful people...loved the conversations...so down to earth and loving. This home is breathtaking. We hope to be back in the future.

Fantastic Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

This home was absolutely the perfect property for a Big Sky ski week. It's so clean and comfortable with all the amenities including a wonderful new hot tub overlooking the Gallatin River. Very close to great restaurants - try the Bison Tenderloin and Red Deer at Bucks!!

Terry and Carolyn are awesome and we can't wait to return!

Perfect Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

After 8 years of skiing trips to the area and staying closer to the resort, this year we decided to try a new house. I wish we had found it sooner - this house was perfect for our trip. The house fit two families (including five children and four adults) with plenty of room to spare. It is in an absolute perfect location, only 20 minutes up the Lone Mountain Trail to ski, and being half-way between Bozeman and Yellowstone allowed us to have all of our favorite activities just a short drive away. Even if we had stayed inside all week, the house itself was a great destination to just relax by the fireplace or sit in the hot tub, under the stars, listening to the Gallatin River just a few feet away. What made this house really stand out were the details - perfect decorating for a cabin-feel, basic amenities provided, clean towels by the rear door for using the hot tub, and many other thoughtful extras. The owners were very friendly but unintrusive hosts, and the beautiful moose that hung around the front yard made for some incredible pictures on our last day. I would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for all the nice comments about our guesthouse. We try to provide everything to make you feel at home. The moose was a little something extra. Winter or summer our location is perfect for busy families like yours. You didn't miss one winter activity except maybe spending a day relaxing by the fireplace!! It was a pleasure meeting you and we hope to see you again.

Simply WONDERFUL in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Rarely does a rental exceed your expectations in every way! This incredible property managed to do just that. We fished in the Gallatin River daily…and caught fish whether it was sunny, raining, sleeting or a dusting of snow. The beautiful inviting fireplace was always nice to sit by and share stories of our rainbow trout getting bigger and bigger. :) After sitting in the hot tub at night, we now know why Montana is referred to as "Big Sky Country"….the amount of stars was simply amazing! The kitchen was very well equipped as was the deck with the nice Weber gas grill. We even decided to eat popcorn for dessert a few evenings just because we could with the nice popcorn machine in the bar area. We loved opening the windows on the more mild evenings and listening to the sound of the river. Yes we EVEN loved the awesome Pella windows with the built in blinds. Now on to the bedding….not sure if there are enough characters remaining for me to explain how awesome it was…so I'll suffice with it was by far the most comfortable sheets, blankets etc of any place I have ever stayed….and that is saying a lot as I have traveled for business regularly since 1990. The house was conveniently located to Yellowstone, Big Sky, and Bozeman. There are many good restaurants nearby that we enjoyed including Olive B's, Lone Peak Brewery, 320 Ranch, and Buck T-4s. We were able to find all the groceries we needed at the Hungry Moose and also at the Country Market. We really enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the owners and can't wait to schedule our return to this unique guesthouse!

Owner's Response: Wow!! What a wonderful way to end our summer season with such a nice review. In fact, it is probably one of the nicest reviews we have ever received. We can't take credit for your success fishing; the beautiful stars at night or the soothing sound of the river but it's rewarding to know you noticed so many of the other things we go out of our way to provide!! Thank you for mentioning them. You managed to dine at all of our favorite nearby restaurants and we are glad to hear you enjoyed them. Terry and I look forward to your next stay at the ONeill Guesthouse. Hopefully, it will be real soon.

“Our Most Relaxing and Enjoyable Vacation!”

  • 5 of 5

I tend to hesitate in writing a glowing review which this delightful and roomy guesthouse deserves since booking it for the following year becomes difficult since so many have found this little piece of heaven!

We have rented many homes over the years but this was a perfect combination of accomodations, the owners providing and anticipating our needs, (delightful people) and glorious scenery that added to the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere! We couldn't of asked for a better week and plan on returning in the future!

Even better than the photos!

  • 5 of 5

The house and surroundings were everything described and more. Nicely equipped, quiet, restful - beautiful! The owners were friendly and helpful. My children happily fished in the river all day and we enjoyed many trout dinners. It was a vacation we won't forget! Thank you!

Twice Charmed

  • 5 of 5

We returned to this lovely home for a second stay (the first two years earlier) with high expectations for comfort, peace and, of course, fun. We were not disappointed. Everything was fresh, clean and ready for use. When not using the well-equipped kitchen, we forayed into Big Sky and discovered our favorite restaurants were still excellent, and discovered a few new ones closer to the ski resort. Also spotted two moose while out and about (which capped off a terrific week). Would definitely recommend the O'Neill's fabulous home to anyone. Just don't take our week! What a dilemma ... unlimited winter activities or just sitting in front of a picturesque window watching it snow. Skiing is only minutes away at Big Sky Resort and with virtually no lift lines, you can ski to your heart's content. Cross-country ski on beautifully groomed runs at the prestigious Lone Mountain Ranch. Snowshoe out the back door on adjacent National Forest. Snowmobile trails are across the highway from our guesthouse with some of the most spectacular views you'll see anywhere. Flyfish the blue ribbon Gallatin River with 2000 feet of river frontage on thirteen acres. Call today for reservations.
