Age of invention

The spirit of innovation is alive and well on the Lower East Side, where modern-day trendsetters navigate streets cluttered with unusual boutiques and hip cafés. And this avant-garde spirit seems to have drifted through the tall windows of Edison Loft, where there’s a palm-patterned accent wall, reclaimed wooden shelves, and unexpected taxidermy adding character in the calm sitting room. From here, cross polished parquet to the study, where the quirky marine wallpaper is tempered by a refined vintage bureau. Or head into the energetic surrounding streets and seek further inspiration among their bold residents.

Forward thinkers

Your hosts are a pair of fashionable entrepreneurs who can often be found exercising their ingenuity in the study. Their home’s oceanic art and antique metal canisters are a quiet nod to their international heritage.

Bright ideas

Vintage light sconces flank the low-slung ivory chaise longue in the sitting room, while brass Edison lamps impart a cheerful glow in the airy bedroom. The poppy-red hue of the iron bed frame is echoed in the efficient galley kitchen, where a wink of colour brightens the warm wooden shelves and minimal monochrome palette. And the wall’s clever cutout opens into the main living space, allowing for the easy exchange of big – or small – ideas.

About Owner / Property Manager

onefinestay gives you the chance to stay in someone's place while they're out of town. You get to live their life for a few days and nights.

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room. And there's service to match.

Nobody wants to be a tourist, so our homes come with recommendations from the people who live in them. For everything else, we're here 24/7.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Lower East Side

Once heavily populated by European immigrants, the Lower East Side beautifully melds 19th century history with 21st century appeal. Long renowned for its gritty integrity, today the 'LES' is famed for the art, food, shopping, music and nightlife scenes that are shaping Manhattan below 14th Street.

Like its hipster brethren across the Williamsburg Bridge, the LES is a veritable haven for the skinny-jean wearing and unkempt-beard-sporting set. The downtown denizens mix in their natural habitat with wandering tourists still seeking the designer deal on Canal Street or checking out how the working classes lived at the Tenement Museum.

Although gentrification has taken a stronghold from the Bowery to points East, some long-standing hold outs of the neighbourhood remain firmly intact – the Dominican bodega or the old school men’s clothing store run by Orthodox Jews, who aggressively pan the streets for customers.

Those with an artistic bent should head to Orchard Street to visit one of the many galleries, a destination starting to rival Chelsea for art openings per square mile.

For the culinary-inclined, trendy restaurants abound from esteemed members of the NYC foodie set. On the weekends, the under-30 crowd takes to the many bars and nightclubs lining Essex, Ludlow and Rivington Streets, the cacophony of the intoxicated teeming out into the night to remind you that you’re decidedly in the city that never sleeps.

What makes this apartment unique

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room, with online payment and confirmation. You get the same attention to detail and personal service too.

Every home is properly cleaned before and after you stay, beds made (we can even do hospital corners) and bathrooms kitted out with luxury toiletries. There’s a maid service if you want it, as well as other hotel-style amenities.

Once we’ve helped you settle in, we’re just a call away, 24/7. If it’s something we can’t solve over the phone, we’ll pop over to lend a hand.

And because nobody wants to be a tourist, our homes come with personal and unique recommendations from the people who live in them – places to eat, things to do and adventures to go on.
