South Kensington Apartment Rental Photos and Description
3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, traditional, antique apartment in Southwest London
Not much overshadows the grandeur of Knightsbridge or the quiet affluence of South Ken, but here’s a home that manages it in every sense of the word. High class but never haughty, this audacious penthouse apartment might better befit a Georgian grand seigneur. Done in traditional English style, but gleaming with opulence from every gilt mirror, uplit oil painting and rich-hued carpet, Queen’s Gate 2 will make great demands on your curiosity. Hold court in the ornate sitting room, take the rarefied air on one of three roof terraces, or shop for finery in nearby Harrods or Harvey Nichols – this is quite a kingdom.
Lady of the house
Your Swedish hostess has lived in London since 1979. A garden designer by trade, you’ll see her talent flowering out of each lovely roof garden. She shares Queen’s Gate 2 with a sprawling collection of her books, while summertime finds her in Switzerland, residing in a pretty chalet.
Glide up in the lift, straight in to a peachy hallway, and on in to the sitting room. Ornate, gilded, and stunningly grandiose, this room will arrest your every heightened sense. Languish upon the traditional sofa or on one of four florally formal armchairs and rove an eye across richly patterned carpets, a gold leaf cabinet and brooding oil paintings. The dining area, a round table overlooked by a pearly chandelier, is fit for the most mythical of kings, while you’ll find the kitchen as high-end as the view from its window. Take a flute of fizz onto one of three roof gardens, or skip down to the bedrooms.
You’ll sigh at the canopy and drapery arranged about the master’s super-king size bed, when you’re not cooing at the gilt-framed paintings or the gracious green ensuite. The double is chic in crimson, with a king size bed and commodious wardrobe, while the twin room is temptingly traditional. In the bathroom’s gilt mirror you’ll see reflected our yummy White Company toiletries and your own awed expression.
Bright and beautiful
Nearby Harrods and Harvey Nichols are the palaces of Knightsbridge, their wares glamorous and aisles echoingly vast. But, should you need some post-retail therapy, take a long, lingering walk about Kensington Gardens or grab a boat and row upon the shimmering Serpentine. South Kensington’s world famous museums are a saunter away, while the Albert Hall is the venue for concerts both classical and contemporary. If the glitz of London’s West End comes calling, trains from nearby Gloucester Road can deliver you to Piccadilly Circus in ten short minutes.
