Overview

Javea Old Town Villa Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful 4 Bedroom Villa Specifically Designed For Al-fresco Living

Hacia el Sur is a very beautiful traditional villa on two levels with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, surrounded by 3,000m of sloping Mediterranean gardens with panoramic views from the Mediterranean Sea across the valley to distant mountains.

It has a tranquil setting on the edge of the Montgo National Park with a stunning and very private gated pool and Jacuzzi built within a natural mountain ravine, huge barbecue, a large dining terrace and two sun terraces. It has hot and cold air conditioning and central heating throughout, a log-burning stove, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Three bathrooms are en-suite shower rooms and one full separate bathroom, plus fifth shower room and W.C. on the garden level.

Hacia el Sur has a lovely position with wide southerly views and an incredible backdrop of the Montgo mountain which looks more like a film set than reality. One of the most attractive features is that, in addition to the upper level lounge, dining area and kitchen, the owners have created a complete summer environment at the garden level, including an superbly equipped summer kitchen, a lounge and bar area, a large al-fresco shaded dining terrace plus a summer dining room for less clement weather, and a huge barbecue big enough to roast a whole lamb. This gives guests the advantage of several very different environments to enjoy, rather than just the more normal 'pool holiday'.

On the upper level, the master bedroom has a double bed, TV (BBC and main Sky channels), en-suite shower room with W.C. The Second bedroom has a double bed, en-suite shower room with W.C.

Two further double bedrooms each have two single beds, one with en-suite shower room and W.C., the other adjacent to the main bathroom.

Also on the upper level is an excellent kitchen with gas hobs, built-in oven, microwave and dishwasher and all the usual small appliances. Separate laundry area with washing machine and hand-wash sink.

There is a large living room with settees, log-burning stove, 42' TV. and DVD player and a large glazed veranda (locally known as a 'naya') with wicker chairs and tables and wonderful panoramic views from the sea across the valley to mountains.

On the lower level there is a fantastic summer kitchen with induction hobs, two built-in ovens (one with a pizza stone, the other with a steam cooking function), tall stainless steel fridge and separate freezer, dishwasher, a coffee maker and microwave and Sky TV. The cupboards are a feature, fitted with antique doors and Indonesian printed fabrics.

There is a lounge area with fully opening glazed arches (another 'naya'), a kitchen bar with six bar stools, low tables and seating, plus an interior dining room (for less clement weather) with a dining table for eight created from an antique door. Off the dining room is a shower room and W.C.

For normal summer days, there is a large exterior dining terrace with a shaded dining table that can seat 14 people with lighting for evening meals.

The huge BBQ is capable of cooking a whole lamb – but it is just as effective for lamb chops and sausages!

The impressive 10m pear-shaped pool is built in a natural ravine, surrounded by rocks and gardens with a backdrop of the Montgó mountain behind and glorious Southern views.

The 2m circular Jacuzzi pool* is built in a hollow in the mountain rocks. Guests tell me they can sit in it and watch the leaves unfold on the banana tree beside it! (Yes, sometimes we do get tiny bananas - but the flowers attract hundreds of bees so normally we cut them off).

The pool area has gates to close it off for young children. Pool side furniture includes two large sun terraces, eight sun loungers, cast aluminium table and chairs, a stone-topped table and four large umbrellas.

The villa was built to a traditional design about 50 years ago, on a 3,000m plot on the low slopes of the Montgó mountainside. It is one of the highest in the area so has spectacular views from a glimpse of the Mediterranean across the Jávea valley to the hills and distant mountains on the other side.

The plot is sloping with several sets of steps and unfortunately unsuitable for people with mobility problems.

Much of the plot is left to the fragrant and natural plants of the area and maintained on a 'keep tidy' basis. The rest of the garden contains many Mediterranean plants, plus orange, lemon, grapefruit, fig, mango, avocado and nispero trees.

*The Jacuzzi pool is unheated: we have found that when permanently heated, a very large amount of chlorine is needed for safety against legionnaire's disease. High chlorination is not suitable for all skin types and can cause bad rashes. However, in the summer the pool is quite warm anyway!

About Rod Davis

I am an artist and my studio is a separate building within the 3,000 sq. m grounds of the villa, with its own entrance, which I use when I am not working in the open. When the villa is let, we live in our apartment in the Javea pueblo, although sometimes you may find me painting in the studio. Many of my paintings are studies of people in Guatemala, where we spend quite a lot of time. The villa is, of course, full of my work.

When I am not painting, I am cooking - thus the big summer kitchen that I designed and had built in what used to be a huge water tank under the house. When the villa was built in the late 60's, there was no water in summer so a deposit was necessary - thankfully things have improved.

Rod Davis purchased this villa in 1970

Why Rod Davis chose Javea Old Town

One of the most distinguishing and attractive features of the villa is that the pool is not immediately in front of the house as in most high quality Spanish villas. Instead, there is a complete and very relaxing summer environment designed specifically for al-fresco living with a huge, excellently equipped summer kitchen, an internal lounge and breakfast bar, a dining room and a large shaded dining terrace and barbecue. The gated pool area, Jacuzzi and sun terraces are at a second level, allowing a richer and more varied holiday experience where you can choose to relax in different ways, perhaps chatting quietly over a glass of wine on the terrace as others frolic more noisily in the pool.

What makes this villa unique

Fabulous villa, tremendous pool, stunning views, tranquil setting, excellent facilities nearby, beautiful beaches, well preserved historical town with no local high-rise buildings, a council-supported policy to deliver high-class cuisine in all the local restaurants, golf a few minutes away, great sailing, water sports and scuba diving, and a theme park half an hour away if the kids get bored. What else could one want?

It is a beautiful and peaceful location with panoramic views from the Mediterranean Sea across the valley to distant mountains. There are several areas in which to relax and sun-bathe, landscaped gardens with secret places to explore, a secluded and private swimming pool, Jacuzzi pool, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi wireless internet access, private parking for two cars, and only a few minutes drive away from the sea, golf course, tennis courts and the many delightful restaurants of Jávea. In fact, two of the very best restaurants in Javea are minutes away, plus two of the best 'meal-of-the-day' restaurants. A perfect retreat to your perfect holiday in the Spanish sun.

Jávea is a jewel on the Costa Blanca, combining great natural beauty and modern facilities with the charm of ancient fishing port, a traditional Spanish village, golden sandy beaches, rugged mountain areas, unspoiled coastal regions, a mild year-round climate, delicious cuisine, extensive tourist facilities and many sport and leisure activities. Jávea has something for everybody.

There are several beautiful bays to visit each with its individual charm. Local activities include golf, scuba diving, sailing and water sports, walking and cycling. And for something completely different, just half an hour away are Terra Mitica Theme Park, an ancient-world themed park with a variety of rides and roller coasters, Aqualandia Water Park, one of the largest water parks in the world, and Mundo Mar where you can see dolphins, seals, sea-lions and exotic birds.

Jávea has long been called Amanecer de Espana, Dawn of Spain, because it occupies a far point of land looking eastward over the Mediterranean Sea. The rising sun’s path catches variously the three headlands. One day San Antonio, another day San Martin, or Cabo de la Nao sees the first golden rays. But always day dawns over that blue sea, enriching the life of the old Spanish fishing community.

There is a sense of contentment, which wells up and exists just under the surface here. This is partly because Javea continues to be a working port and not just a tourist Mecca; but also because it is a place where people from many parts of northern Europe come to live permanently, not just a few weeks a year.

There is much history here, with the influence of the Moors much in evidence, with perhaps the ancient San Bartolome Church containing the soul of the village. One of its inner walls was there in 1244 when King Jaime El Conquistador defeated the Moors here, whilst the outside wall is pockmarked by fusillades of the Civil war seven centuries later.

Then there are the wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables, the wine of all qualities and prices, the incredible almond blossom in the early spring, the outside markets, the fields of orange trees, literally hundreds of restaurants and then of course always the clear air.

Halfway between Alicante and Valencia airports, less than an hour from each via a modern Autopista, but far enough away to never see an aeroplane. Centrally placed to reach the cities of Madrid or Barcelona, to travel down to the Costa del Sol or just travel 10 minutes inland into the hills that surround Javea.

Of course there are the tourists, but unlike most of the resorts on the Costas of Spain, the travellers here prefer to rent a villa with a private pool, or an apartment with a communal pool. There are very few hotels in Javea, and those that are here do not cater for package holidays.

Importantly, the Spanish have taken Javea to their hearts, and now make up a large percentage of the influx to the town.

Javea is no longer a hidden paradise. Clubs, restaurants, the Parador, the Javea Golf Course, and our proud Club Nautico do all they can to make us known, as does the annual Tourist Feria. The shooting range on La Plana, riding stables, tennis courts, cricket pitch, bowling clubs, undersea diving facilities – exist for the pleasure and profit of all. Many local clubs exist and walking in the area is a favourite pastime.
