Local Attractions: Orleans is the gateway to the lower Cape. The town operates three public beaches: 1. Nauset Beach on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Cape features big surf, pristine sand dunes, bath houses, and Liam's Seafood. 2. Skaket Beach on Cape Cod Bay features warm water, miles of sand flats for walking at low tide, a popular snack shack, and bath houses. 3. Pilgrim Lake is a fresh water lake with a large beach, swimming lessons in the morning, and a bath house. You are also a short ride to the first beach of the National Seashore - Coast Guard Beach.

Other Attractions: There are many recreational activities on the lower Cape. Orleans has two entrances to the Cape Cod Bike Path with a bike rental place in the center of town. There are three conservation areas that feature well maintained walking paths and beautiful views of little Pleasant Bay. Orleans has many shopping opportunities and you are a short ride to beautiful down-town Chatham. Evening activities include the Cape Cod Baseball League games, live theatre at the Academy Playhouse, and several local concert series.

Crystal Lake: Our little house is located on beautiful Crystal Lake, one of the most popular swimming lakes on the Cape. Kayaks, life-jackets, a swim float, and comfortable seating make it wonderful place to spend the afternoon.

Swimmers Paradise - Orleans Oasis

We have been renting this unit for the past 13 years. Its location on beautiful Crystal Lake and the wonderful accomodations are what keep us coming back. The owners have asked for feedback every year and have upgraded accordingly. You can actually arrive with just your suitcase (linens and towels and beach gear are provided) and not be loaded down with extra stuff. The location is convenient to the town center and to bay and ocean beaches. After the a swim in either of the above you return to a refreshing swim in the lake at your back door, or as we often do you can spent the whole day away from the maddening crowds. I'm afraid if I rave too much I will find it more difficult to get my time next year.

Clean and Charming--with a Great View!

This rental was exactly as described: comfortable, clean, charming and very well equipped. The view from the LR and the master BR is exquisite. The kitchen has all the necessities, and the appliances are all up to date. The drive to a choice of beaches, bay or oceanside, is minutes. The property is easy to find, close to groceries and other necessities, but still feels private and "away from it all."

I spent a month here in October, so it was very quiet. This unit is a townhouse, so it does share a wall with another unit. I do not know how quiet it would be in the summer when there are other tenants.

The inside is superbly laid out. A single person, couple or family with one or two young kids would be comfortable here. It really is not suitable for persons who have difficulty walking or doing stairs,though.

I would love to return. It is a gem.

great vacation

Perfect rental for a small family. Master bedroom has a queen bed and a beautiful view of the lake. Second bedroom is outfitted with a bunk bed with the bottom bunk being a double bed - perfect for kids. The unit is cozy (first floor is an eat in kitchen and living room) and is clean and tidy and equipped with everything necessary for a beach vacation: washer/dryer, big outdoor shower, gas grill and a lovely outdoor dining area with a faulous view of the lake. We had a very comfortable stay and hope to return. We also swam/fished/kayaked in the lake more than we expected to.

The only drawbacks I can think of (and they didn't affect our visit) is the lack of dishwasher and small indoor shower (no tub - could be hard to bathe young children who don't use a shower yet). We used paper plates and showered out doors! Also, the unit is built on a hill - anyone with mobility issues may have difficulty getting to and from the car and lake.

Great rental for couple or small family

This is our second year renting this cottage. It is exceptionally clean -- even the sheets smell great; the beds soft and comfy. It's peaceful, fun, close to everything but yet secluded. We like to bike to Nauset Beach and play in the brisk, sometimes pounding surf, then ride our bikes back (just about 2 miles) and relax in the much-warmer pond. We love this cottage and plan on renting it again.
