This was the 2nd time we rented this home. Our 1st visit was several years ago and turned out great. We rented again this year but, our experience was far different. Let me count the ways! Internet access: Although we had been assured that broadband would be available, it was not. After consulting with the owner, we ultimately went out and bought a wireless router and spent hours setting it up but, even so, our access was very poor. Linens and other supplies: The bed linens were left on each bed! So, after paying a large weekly rental fee, you must make your own beds! Also there were no towels in ANY of the bathrooms and most of the clean towels in the linen closet had been put away too damp to be used! There was NO SOAP in the bathrooms and very little t/p. The garbage: Garbage pick up is early on Monday morning but check-out is on Saturday so many tenants have little garbage only 1 day into their visit. So they don't bother to put out the cans or even check on it. Result: the garage is FILLED with black bags of garbage! We rented in early AUG and I believe all of July's garbage was in the garage. Yuck! And finally, there was the security deposit: The owner requires a very large security deposit equal to half the rent and has you sign a lease that specifies that the deposit (and/or a list of damages) will be returned within 30 days. We just received our check after 37 days and the owner had deducted for ELECTRICITY!! This is outrageous. While we MIGHT understand a deduction for EXCESSIVE use, this is a deduction for a prorated share of all electricity. So, if you are a frugal user of a/c but you happen to rent during a month when others use an excessive amt., you are ‘punished’ financially for the behavior of others. I suggest you find a different house.
Owner's Response: We care about our renters experience at our beautiful home. I'm sorry that these renters were disappointed. I communicated with them several times to help them. Having rented at our home in the past, they asked if we could add the internet which I was happy to oblige.We did not have wireless so we reimbursed them a wirelss router to please their wishes. The lease is very straightforward and no hidden fees.Stated in the lease, security deposit may not be possible within 30 days but no later than 60 days. We supply linens to ease renters bringing them with them. Towels are put in linen closet. The problem of damp towels was addressed to the house cleaner so this will not happen again. Clean sheets are folded and put on beds to assure renters that they are fresh & clean. I was unaware that renters expect toiletries but would be happy to provide them. Trash is picked up in the garage the following Monday by a private collector and he has been provided with access to garage now so as not to miss a pickup. I hope this addresses questions & concerns. I support renters communicating with us so your vacation will be everything you hoped for. We look forward to hearing from you. You won't be disappointed.
