Looks can be deceiving
Upon arrival, we were greeted with 2 overflowing smelly garbage cans in the garage. The condition of the house was quite disappointing. The downstairs master suite was the only decent bedroom. The bed in one of the upstairs rooms was broken, ( we fixed it ) and two of the beds had filthy sheets still on them. After doing the laundry, we then cleaned the cold air return downstairs that was clogged with dirt and dust from probably the last ten years. Must have been a nice home at one time. Today, definitely not so much. As this was my pick for 3 other couples staying with us, I was very embarrased to say the least. Oh, and if you're looking for a quick return on your security deposit, plan on 60 days and several communications.
Owner's Response: Needless to say, we were surprised at the comments received. We have been renting this beautiful house since we bought it in 2003. It is only 10 years old, so everything is new and up to date. We keep it very nice. It is a bright, airy home, and nicely decorated. We keep a guest register in the Living Room and it is full of wonderful notes and comments from our renters through the years praising the house and the wonderful experiences that they have had there. The comments here are very unusual to us to say the least.
We have an experienced cleaning company that cleans the house before every renter and also takes care of trash and minor repairs, etc. When we are not there between renters, they act as our caretakers and check everything out for us. They definitely clean the house thoroughly and, of course, change and wash all of the linens for each new renter. We have had them for over 5 years and we have had no problem with them. We have local handymen, plumbers, etc. that respond very quickly if and when things need attention.
Curiously, we didn't hear of any of the issues that these renters had while they were there. Had we been advised, we would have sent our people over immediately to take care of anything and everything. One of our instructions and requirements (in fact, it's number one on the list) requires, in detail, how, when, and where to put out the trash for pick-up. It appears as if the renters previous to these folks didn't follow the instructions and left it in the garage where the cleaners wouldn't have found it. Again, had we known, we could have immediately taken care of it. If there were minor issues with the bed, etc. obviously, the previous renters didn't mention these things either or we would have taken care of it immediately.
We have since been at the house and have had several renters with all positive comments. The house remains a wonderful vacation house and ready for future renters to enjoy.
Re: the deposit, we normally return the security deposit within the 30 days allowed and almost never take any of it and we, of course, didn't take any this time. In this case, we were delayed by some confusion on our part regarding which renter actually left the garbage inside and left the house dirty. When we sorted it out, we returned the full deposit. We do apologize for our confusion in that matter.
