1. Woodstock, 20 miles. Regularly named the most beautiful small town in America (thanks to the Rockefellers), with the Billings Farm and National Park within the village proper, as well as the Vermont Raptor Center. 2. Killington, 30 miles. Best skiing in the Northeast, so they say. 3. Stowe, 45 miles. Best skiing in the Northeast, so they say. 4. Dartmouth/Hanover, 25 miles. Great culture, great kid's museum, 5. Burlington, one hour away. Wonderful town on Lake Champlain's shore. Worth the trip. 6. Ben & Jerry's Factory, 30 miles. My favorite was the ice cream graveyard - and the free samples. 7. Silver Lake State Park, 6 miles. A beautiful little lake with a great inn for breakfast. Swim, boat, and sun. 8. Connecticut River, various distances, but well worth it however you get there. 9. Green Mountain State Forest. The whole reason Vermont is Vermont. In the house are various hiking tours, all fun to take and very close.
