We were disappointed

We were disappointed! Yes, the house was spotlessly clean, and yes, the view from the front porch was lovely, but what they don’t tell you is you can’t access the beach from that vantage point – it’s a private club! Yes, you can walk to the town boat landing, but there is not enough beach to sit on. It’s more like a boat parking lot, and you certainly wouldn’t want to swim there with boats coming and going. We think the wording in the ad is misleading: “Walk over to bay beach area and sit, swim or clam” is a real stretch. To get to a “real beach” you have to drive, and parking rates are $7 - $20/day. The ad offers Dish TV/Cable, but the dish hasn’t worked in several years and the cable is VERY limited to only a few channels. The ad promises internet access, but there is no working telephone. (The owners should post emergency numbers since no phone means no 911 access.) The ad promises a stereo, but the stereo is broken and the antennae was missing from the kitchen radio. House wiring is old, so you can’t run the air conditioners and your hair dryer at the same time, and the fan was broken. When we arrived there wasn’t even toilet paper in the bathrooms – bad news after a long car ride. While this house is a nice getaway, we feel the owners overpromised and underdelivered.
Owner's Response: All renter's are advised with regard to the small private property, the yacht club, across the street. There is swimming and a beach area to the left of the club or at the public boat landing. We offer the use of our canoe, located next to the water at the landing. Kayaks are also launched from this location so people are always in and around the water. Check our ad info regarding the best beaches nearby and you'll be directed to one of the sandy ocean front beaches within 1-2 miles. All of renters know about this detail. Cable channels were added and currently there are something like 200 TV, movie and music options. Stereo is repaired. Can't 911 be called from a cell phone? We discontinued the land line telephone because EVERYONE uses their own phone. Internet access is for the 2009 season. And lastly, we are always available to help or fix any problem that may arise. No-one ever called us?? We thought they loved the house! So many people have.....
