High Falls House Rental Photos and Description
House, 3 Bedrooms, (4 w/basement) and 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
ONE CLOVEWOOD is tucked away on the other side of Mohonk Mountain, nestled amidst towering trees and spacious lawn. Our custom-built home features high ceilings, skylights and big, open rooms. We love to cook, and our kitchen is equipped with high-end pots, pans and gear. The deck wraps around the back and side and connects to a perennial garden set within a flagstone path.
The home is 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. [Note: 4th bedroom is in the basement and contains 1 queen and two twin beds]
Our house is ideal for bustling holidays with family and gatherings with friends, but it's also set up for quiet writing sessions or a romantic getaway. It's a base for hiking, biking and climbing in the spring, summer and fall and makes for the perfect winter wonderland escape Jan-March.
It's a great home for cooking special meals, playing games, swapping tales by the bonfire, and overall entertaining and creating memories. It's also very family friendly. We have two long rope swings, a baby swing, many board games, and a beautiful (and very popular) set of wood blocks and haba ball track.
The basement is the go-to spot for pre-teens and Dads with a ping-pong table, Bonzini foosball table, upright piano, flat screen tv and 75-pieces of Brio train track and station accessories for our littlest guests.
The house is two miles from Mohonk Preserve and eight miles from Minnewaska Preserve, where you can enjoy world-class climbing, biking, running, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, cross-country skiing, ice-skating, and snowshoeing. Feel free to ask us about all the off the beaten track adventures we love, including waterfalls, remote cliffs, spectacular ridges with views of the Catskills and all the hidden pristine natural wonders. Downhill skiing at Hunter, Bell-Ayre, Wyndham & Plattekill is reachable through scenic backroads via Phonecia.
The house is equipped with a crib, child's twin, high chair, and a jogging stroller, a child's bike seat, children's bikes, a baby swing and toys.
We're a short bike ride from the 330-year-old village of High Falls and ten minutes from the college town of New Paltz and Stone Ridge. Explore the area's charming historic towns, old stone homes, antique stores and abundant restaurants. There are also multiple bars, wineries in the area plus great antiquing, cafes, shopping, yoga centers, a climbing gym, movie theater.
We can direct you to local Historic sights in the immediate vicinity and surrounding Hudson Valley. And tip you off about our favorite farmer's markets to boot.

About Caroline Bollinger
I'm a former magazine editor and my husband is a professor of mathematics at New York City College of Technology. We live in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with our boys, 6 & 9--which we love (the neighborhood I mean--oh and the kids too). But we appreciate our urban life all the more because we can get away. When in High Falls, we turn the gang loose and let them collect bugs; build labyrinths in the woods and roam the Preserve on their bikes. We hope (and believe!) you'll love our getaway as much as we do.
Caroline Bollinger purchased this house in 2006
Why Caroline Bollinger chose High Falls
We became attached to the area in 1999, when we started traveling up together for a day of rock climbing. Two years later we were scouring local real estate ads. We looked for 22 months and were about to throw in the towel when we stumbled on the contemporary low-maintenance home we'd been seeking. It felt secluded, yet close to the preserve and friends in High Falls, New Paltz and Rosendale. So in spring of 2006 we purchased our place ONE CLOVEWOOD.
What makes this house unique
We like the comfort, openness and easiness of this house. It's hidden enough to feel like a weekend retreat. Yet it provides central access to all that we love in the area.
We come up with the kids to hike, bike, swim, fish, cook and relax and bbq with friends. The area offers so much of natures best that it's often hard to believe it's just 2 hours from NYC. Our giant tulip trees are home to orioles, finches and woodpeckers and owls. Our land also offers habitat to deer, woodchucks, frogs, a red fox--and one time even a black bear, to say nothing of our neighbors' free-ranging chickens! The house sits on several acres (as do others in the area), and the quiet is a nice antidote to the bustle of city life. Biking from the cliffs in the preserve back to our house, is a family favorite, there are carriage trails and gravel roads for all but about 1/4 mile. The hike to Bonticou is another must do.
We pick apples and pumpkins in the fall and let the kids get lost in the corn mazes and hay mazes at markets like the Wallkill, Jenkins and Calder Family Farm. Golfers will find a 9-hole course at Mohonk and 18 holes down the street at the Stone Dock Golf Course. Tennis players can play on a spectacular clay court with a view at Mohonk. There's also ample antiquing and even a vineyard.
We love to ski at Plattekill in winter. It's 15 minutes further than Hunter or Belleayre but we cherish the down home, old-school vibe. (It's hassle free and there's a great bar to boot!). My boys also love to ice skate up at Mohonk.
We take out-of-town guests to the DIA in Beacon, the FDR house and Vanderbilt mansions. We've also done cruises down the Hudson and trips to Red Hook and Hudson for antiques. And don't even get me started on the culinary scene. (Foodies: if you want info--just ask!)
