Cornish Holiday Escapes provides 2 luxury self contained holiday homes with everything you need to have your perfect Cornish holiday escape... so when will yours be?

The ‘Old Dairy’, the former cattle shed and creamery at Little Rosewarne has been carefully renovated keeping the character of the old building but providing all the comforts of modern living.

The 'Hayloft' is a first floor 'modern' barn conversion, with high lofted ceilings and views across open countryside. There is NO accommodation below only our garage. (The floors are fully sound proofed and insulated).

Both properties are finished to a very high standard and equipped with everything you will need (see our reviews!) if you want to enjoy the relaxed country location and open space or explore the local beaches and all that this part of Cornwall has to offer.

Little Rosewarne lies nestled at the base of Godolphin Hill within part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage site. From the summit of the hill there are spectacular panoramic views over West Cornwall and the Lizard. The National Trust’s Godolphin Estate borders our grounds with Godolphin House and Gardens a short walk away.

With easy access to the beaches (Praa Sands with its long sandy beach, Surf School, bar and cafes is only minutes away) and rugged coastline of West Cornwall, the Lizard Peninsula, historic St Ives and the Helford Estuary, the ‘Old Dairy’ and 'Hayloft' are the perfect place for your Cornish holiday escape.

Although the clue is in the name, few would guess that this sleek new, contemporary holiday cottage was once a lowly cow shed and creamery. While being careful to preserve the character of the original building, we have built a modern architectural conversion, where light floods in through floor to ceiling windows and underfloor heating makes the oak and slate floors warm and toasty for little toes. The living/dining/kitchen is open plan and on the first floor, opening onto an enclosed south facing balcony with bistro table and chairs. The cottage has also been kitted out o the highest spec, including granite worktops and Bosch appliances in the well equipped kitchen, leather sofas, contemporary wood burner and the latest home entertainment including flat screen HD TV’s, iPod docks and Wi Fi. The master bedroom is ensuite and there is a separate bathroom too, both with fluffy Egyptian cotton towels and Bayliss & Harding toiletries.

About Kate and Kevin Thomas

We moved to Cornwall as a family in October 2010 with the intention of setting up our own holiday letting business and to have our own Cornish escape from our previous lifestyle.

We are Kate and Kevin Thomas and have 3 young boys who love the freedom of the great outdoors.

Little Rosewarne is a smallholding of some 10 acres and in the past has had its own dairy herd. We started to convert the old cattle shed and creamery at the beginning of 2012 and wanted to maintain the character of the building while providing a sustainable future for the farm. Our next project is to convert the old piggery and stables into further accommodation. Work on this will begin in 2013.

We keep chickens at Little Rosewarne and currently enjoy eggs from 3 Copper Marans, 2 Speckled Marans and one Cream Legbar. We also raise Berkshire pigs. These are black haired and famed for their great quality pork.

Why Kate and Kevin Thomas chose Porthleven

We bought Little Rosewarne after holidaying in the Porthleven area over the past 20 years. We know the area well and would spend most of our holiday time either in Porthleven or towards Falmouth.

When we made the decision to move to Cornwall we knew we wanted to be close to the things and areas we loved. However, we had never been to Godolphin Cross or for that matter Godolphin House. But when we saw Little Rosewarne, we fell in love with the place and felt with its proximity to the areas we enjoyed spending time in, it would make the ideal place for us to live and raise our family.

Little Rosewarne itself is a traditional Cornish farmhouse with extensive gardens. We wanted to buy a property where there was the potential for a blank canvas and for us to make our own mark. The first of which is The Old Dairy. It also means we are close at hand if we are needed.

The area is stunning because it is situated near to Godolphin House with easy access to the the beach and fantastic areas and places to explore.

What makes this cottage unique

We believe that 'The Old Dairy' and 'Hayloft' at Little Rosewarne is the perfect place to escape to, and explore this part of Cornwall. We hope that having spent many years staying in quality holiday accommodation we have worked out what works and what is sometimes missing and it is to this end we hope we can provide that little something extra. If you feel we have forgotten something or there is something we can do to improve your stay then please ask.

We had a great stay at the Old Dairy. We felt at home very soon. Brand new home with great facilities and everything available. Very good price/quality ratio. We enjoyed the lovely kitchen and bath rooms, the balcony, the Orchard at our disposure. Great authentic area from where there are lots of nice trips to make. Nice and helpful owners. One week was in fact much too short.

Cornish Perfection!

The Old Dairy is a wonderful place to stay, I cannot recommend it enough! The cottage is a perfect blend of tradtional and modern design and is kept to an exceptionally high standard. Kevin and Kate are wonderful hosts and were at hand if ever we needed anything - which we didn't as they already had it covered. Our very late arrival was not an issue and after a long drive we were welcomed with fresh scones, jam, cream and milk for tea, all of the essentials! We had a wonderful few days relaxing and exploring the countryside around the cottage, so many wonderful things close by, just not enough time to do them all. We will be back for sure, many times!

We had an amazing time at The Old Dairy.

On arrival there were some thoughtful home touches such as flowers, home made scones with jam and clotted cream, tea and milk plus apple juice and ice lollies for the boys, not to forget the wine for later! All were very much appreciated! The property itself was well equipped with everything you could or would need. A great selection of games, toys, books and DVDs were also provided. A bonus to this property were the animals, we loved helping with the feeding of them in the morning and enjoyed tucking into the freshly laid eggs. The log burner was just what we needed on a cold February night. The owners were very friendly and welcoming with a lot of knowledge on the area and where to go. The cottage itself was situated in an ideal area to visit the south and north of Cornwall. Overall it was a relaxing, peaceful and comfortable retreat for the week. Would highly recommend :-)

Perfect holiday!

We had an amazing holiday here with our almost 2 year old daughter. Kate and Kevin have thought of everything you might need in an apartment to ensure your stay is relaxing and fun from the start. They took delivery of our online shopping and gave us lots of ideas for trips out. We didn't waste a moment of our holiday because of their help. We saw the best sights and had time to relax with our lovely cream tea on arrival in an fabulous apartment! Our daughter Esta loved seeing the ducks and hens daily. We all had an AMAZING time and we will be back. Thanks so much!

Welcoming and well located family getaway

We have just returned from an excellent week at The Old Dairy with our 2 year old. Kevin, Kate and family were extremely welcoming and helpful and we found the accommodation to be as described, clean and well maintained.

The Old Dairy is very well situated offering a peaceful rural setting a short drive from the lovely historic harbor town of Porthleven and close to many excellent beaches. The proximity to Helston for shopping/fuel was convenient and we found it provided easy access to other areas and attractions.

We particularly enjoyed (all easy to get to)

Porthleven - lots to do and some great places to eat/drink

Coverack Cove and the Lizard

Nice quiet place close to a lot of experiences.

A fine house in quiet surroundings. Nice to eat breakfast looking down at ducks, chickens and rabbits. The house is well equipped as promised and the owners are very friendly and helpful. We had a fantatic stay.

Close to Lands End, St. Ives, Kynance Cove, St. Michaels Mount and a nature trail in Porthleven among a lot of other nice places we had absolute no problems finding fantastic experiences.

Helston not far away offered good opportunities for shopping.

We wouldn't hesitate to receommend this place to anyone.

I'm sure that we would choose this house again, if we should decide to spend our holiday in Cornwall again.

The Old Dairy borders the National Trust's Godolphin House and Estate (as featured in Cornwall with Caroline Quentin on ITV).

St. Ives, Penzance, Marazion, Falmouth, The Lizard Peninsula and Helford and Fal Estuaries are all just a short distance away, thus making The Old Dairy a great place to explore the most southerly and westerly parts of Cornwall.

For beach lovers Praa Sands is close by, with Kynance Cove, Gwithian Sands, and Carbis Bay a short drive away. With access to both coasts there is always something for everyone from sheltered coves and sandy beaches to fantastic surf.

But if the weather is having an off day, there are plenty of fantastic days out. The Eden Project is a must and The National Maritime Museum and Porthcurno Telegraph Museum are highly recommended (ask our 3 boys). Other local attractions include Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Flambards and Paradise Park.

There are a number of fantastic gardens (such as Trebah Gardens) and National Trust sites (including Godolphin House and Estate, Trengwainton Garden, Glendurgan Garden, Trelissick Garden, Trerice House and Levant Mine) to explore as well as the Mining Heritage of Cornwall - Little Rosewarne is situated within the Tregonning and Trewavas District World Heritage site. In addition, there are some English Heritage sites nearby (including Pendennis Castle, St. Mawes Castle and the Chysauster Ancient Village).

For the more energetic there is easy access to some fantastic coastal walking along the South West Coast paths. Rural walks can be had from your front door - cross the road and explore the National Trusts Godolphin Woods (a blanket of bluebells in early spring) and Godolphin Hill which boasts a fantastic panorama. You can see St. Ives and Gwithian Sands on the North Coast, down into the Lands End Peninsula, with St. Michaels Mount, Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole to the south. Further round the spine of the Lizard Peninsula stretches out with the distinctive satellite dishes of Goonhilly piercing the skyline and finally Carn Brea and the Monument to the north.

Cycling both on the road and off road is excellent with the Mineral Tramways Trails great for all abilities. There are local bike hire shops in both Porthleven and on the Mineral Tramways.

The small fishing village of Porthleven lies 4 miles to the south with a wide choice of pubs, fantastic restaurants, cafes and tea rooms. There is also a good choice of locally produced foods with a fishmongers and deli. There are a number of local pubs which provide a warm welcome, great beer and good food. We would be happy to recommend some.

There is fresh produce a plenty in Cornwall - from clotted cream and Roskilly's dairy ice cream, fresh fish and locally reared meat, poultry and vegetables. There are two farm shops within a couple of miles of Godolphin.

This is a small sample of places to visit and things to do to help you enjoy your holiday. We are always happy to suggest more – or explore what this part of Cornwall has to offer for yourself.

There is a Mira walk in shower with drench head and adjustable head. The bathroom suite is manufactured by Laufen and there is a large double ended bath for those who love to lie back and soak. The second bedroom can be either a king size double or twin room. The double room consists of a king sized bed with The White Company bedding and oak bedside tables and an oak double wardrobe with drawers. If configured as a twin room the beds are 2'6' . Both Bedrooms have double doors with a functioning window that lead on to the small courtyard and patio. There are bedside table lamps in each room as well as LED down lights.
