LOVELY PLACE - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • 5 of 5
Lovely place to stay for our family holiday. Booking was prompt and efficient, directions and access were easy. And the house itself was lovely - spacious, cosy, and just a short walk down from the pub. There were plenty of books to read (really interesting selection) and plenty of places to read them.
The Lamb pub was close by and was useful for watching the World Cup...
Only possible downside was that although there were 2 bathrooms (and a toilet downstairs), only 1 had a shower, the other just had a bath.

YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THIS GEM!

Our stay at 'Upperfold' in Great Rissington was the one absolutely perfect part of our ten-day vacation to England. Starting with a very prompt reply to our initial inquiry, we found the owner to be incredibly responsive to all our questions. The house and furnishings were exactly as pictured and even more delightful in real life. Everything was neat, clean, and organized. Our small challenge with getting dial-up service was quickly remedied through prompt interaction with the owner. One super-nice touch was the package of digestives and loaf of fresh bread which awaited us on the kitchen table, along with the small container of milk in the fridge. This allowed our first trip to the grocery store to be delayed while we settled in leisurely. The bedrooms were simply and comfortably furnished -- the linens were lovely. In particular the master bathroom was modern and fabulous, especially the skylight which opened to release steam and let in fresh air. We made a ritual out of sitting in the back yard in the nice chairs which were provided. What a peaceful environment and lovely view. The chairs also came in handy for taking on picnics by the canal in Lower Slaughter or Bourton-on-the-Water. Great Rissington was an excellent base for our day trips to Stow-on-the-Wold and the Cotswold Lavender Farms. We could have easily visited many other nearby sites but had a hard time tearing ourselves away from the serenity of Upperfold. Looking at the photos on this web site makes us homesick. We would very much love to return someday. You will not find a nicer house in the Cotswolds. In the village itself we enjoyed a gourmet dinner outside at The Lamb Inn and loved walking down to see the picturesque St John the Baptist Church & graveyard. Great Rissington, and particularly Upperfold, were nothing short of delightful. We strongly recommend staying there.
