Casa Alegra is a substantial, fantastically-appointed modern 3 bedroom detached residence with incredible views over the bay of Funchal. It is the perfect base for exploring the whole island, and Madeira's renowned, world-class golf courses are within easy reach: (Palheiro 20 minutes and Santo da Serra 30 min).

The internal living accommodation available to you is 200 square meters over two floors (gym on the ground floor and barbecue area are in addition to this). The spacious sitting room, with real log fireplace is open plan to the dining room and opens onto the surrounding terraces. There is a large flat screen television with cable access (many language channels) and a well-stocked DVD and book library for guests to enjoy.
The 3 bedrooms are upstairs with large double beds sleeping up to 6 people comfortably. All bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space and terraces. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom. There is 1 more bathrooms and 2 further cloakroom / WCs. Every bedroom leads on to the terrace.
There is a spacious fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary utensils and separate breakfast area.
Outside there is cultivated garden, several generous terraces where you can enjoy magnificent views, dine in the sun, hammock and loungers for lazy afternoons and a traditional stone barbecue area. Views over the mountains, town and Funchal harbour are spectacular and the terraces are the perfect place to enjoy Madeira's famous New Year's fireworks.
Located in a tranquil, upmarket residential area, Casa Alegra is only 10 minutes from the centre of Funchal by car or 20 minutes by bus (regular service, 3 minute walk to the bus stop and a bit longer uphill on the way back).
With the express highway only 3-4 minutes away by car, everything is within easy reach and a car is recommended for enjoying all that the beautiful island of Madeira has to offer. Alternatively taxi services can be arranged as required. Walkers will enjoy the local forest, not to mention the levada walks Madeira is famous for.
Your English speaking host lives in a separate self-contained flat on the premises, so is always on call if needed.

I retired to this lovely island seven years ago. Before that I lived in central London for over 30 years. That's why I now prefer to live further from the center of town and heavy traffic.
I bought this house because I wanted to live close to unspoilt nature and yet have an easy and quick access to the centre of Funchal.
I am very near a beautiful forest ideally suited for daily walking and enjoying this exquisite, peaceful region of unique natural beauty and diverse scenery.
The house is built at such an angle that even during the hottest weather the inside of the house is just pleasantly warm, never oppressively hot.
It is suited in a lovely, quiet suburb, residential area on one of a small central hills, 10 minutes by car to the centre of town.
You can enjoy daily walk and run in the forest and go for a swim in the sea on the same afternoon.
This is an ideal place to get away from it all, stay and exercise in a fresh air, far from noise and traffic, connect with nature and enjoy the most spectacular views over surrounding hills, the Funchal harbour and the sea beyond.
Nearest food shops are in Sao Roque, 3 minutes by car: very large bakery, supermarket, small fruit market and usual amenities. One of the biggest, well stocked supermarkets is only 5 minutes away by car. It is open until 22:00 pm every day. Other big supermarkets in Funchal and Madeira Shopping Centre are all within 10 - 15 minutes' drive.
