The brief on this brand spanking newly furnished architect and interior designed lateral home was to create a light and airy feel, make it cosy but modern, and grown up but not stuffy. 100% achieved. This gorgeous home, equally suited to a family or for a romantic getaway, packs it all in with a 45 foot room spanning 2 large and spacious reception areas with 2 custom sofas: one so oversized that you can lounge four people comfortably (it’s 13 ft by 4 ft to be exact).

Owned by a seriously peripatetic family who are currently stationed in NYC for a few years, the well dressed open plan living space glows with a pale freshness created by a carefully chosen colour palette, acres of ground floor space for roaming around in and custom furnishings everywhere you glance. The overall result is delightful English sensibility meets American wide open spaces.

You won’t be caught short on neighbourhood action in Notting Hill. The whole area is buzzing with great shops, cafés, bars and family friendly restaurants. Having had your fill of this fashionable neighbourhood, you can jump on the bus at the stop right outside the house, to take you and your brood to the further sightseeing delights of the capital - all within easy transport of 1/2 hour.

The galley style featureless kitchen has everything you need to produce a family meal to be enjoyed at the large modern, gleaming table with swivel chair seating for up to 8. After which time you can settle down in front of the 46” flat screen to catch some great British television or a DVD.

Privacy and quiet are further key benefits of this home which is set off the street down a leafy fern strewn landscaped path. In fact its so private no one can see the house from the street.

WIFI is of course standard, there is a set Bose powered speakers to plug your tunes into, while you are enjoy great views of park life via windows flanked on either side of the living room that are set off by a massive crumbling Victorian mirror in between.

Sleeping arrangements are spread across two lovely bedrooms. The master has a queen bed and a luxurious marble clad en suite with roomy shower, the 2nd bedroom is a cosy space with a double bed and a single bed that can sleep 3 in comfort: all with wall mounted swivel reading lamps and custom headboards and valances in neutral linen stripes. Both bedrooms have large pivoting velux windows with black out blinds when complete darkness is desired.

The 2nd spacious bathroom has a large tub and hand shower and gleams all white marble throughout.

Finally, a custom pull out double sofa bed in one of the reception areas can sleep your rangy teenager wanting his own space or another couple as the case may be, making this home work any which way for whatever guest configuration is needed.

About Marina Mazur

Your hosts are a very British family (Scottish to be exact) that have lived all over the world. Based in NYC for the foreseeable future, the host works with the UN resolving world conflicts. They have asked me to manage their home for vacation rentals whilst managing my own home which I have been offering to guests for several years now and attested by strong 5 star feedback. I am excited to be offering 'all about space and light' as a sister property my own. They go hand in hand. I am American and grew up in Santa Barbara, CA and have been living in London for 20 years where I am raising my family.

Notting Hill and the life blood that is Portobello Market is inspiring to be a part of each day. It is a real neighbourhood in the old fashioned sense. Daily trips to Portobello Road for your morning capp, procuring of vegetables & fruit from old fashioned greengrocer stalls in the market itself and generally soaking up the wonderful atmosphere make this area very special. It still retains it's individual feel and there is a wonderful mix of ethnic races which add to the local flavour. Leafy streets, great architecture and the wonderful open green space of Kensington Memorial Park literally next door are wonderful amenities. The tennis courts in the park and the playground area is a real godsend for kids!

What makes this house unique

This unique west facing home has a wonderful feeling of space and light which it gets from it's double height ceiling and windows on three sides and is what makes this home unique. This house has great flow and can take a large family comfortably so everyone can be doing their own thing without bumping into each other such as in more typical terraced housing where the houses are very narrow and the light source is only from the front and back of the house.

PERFECT FLAT FOR SEEING LONDON

Flat is a gem... very secure and quiet..backups up to a beautiful park. The bus is right outside the door, but we normally walked to the Ladbroke tube station. Great neighborhood..easy access to groceries and restaurants. And the Portobello Market is very close and an experience not to be missed! The flat is outfitted like your home..very comfortable living spaces and the beds are super comfy. Marina was always available and very helpful. We were 4 women and it was a little challenging getting ready each morning. Hairdryers can't be used in bathrooms (England safety code) and there is only one shower (bathtub with a hand shower in other bathroom). But we all agreed we would stay here again!

This property looked better online.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were much smaller than they appeared to be online. Also, there was no electricity in the 2nd bedroom throughout our stay. The hot water didn't work in the shower, so the entire family had to either bathe in the bathtub or take a cold shower. The children slept on the sofas because the two beds in the second bedroom were very small. The area of the property was convenient and we enjoyed the park that was nearby. There were also several nice restaurants within walking distance.

Owner's Response: Very unfortunate hot water tank malfunction during this guest stay which tripped the electricity in the 2nd bedroom additionally to only having lukewarm water in the main shower and sink en suite to the master bedroom. Property management was very responsive immediately via both email and texts and offered to get a 24 hour plumber & electrician to the home asap. Unfortunately despite several emails and texts, these guests did not get back to any texts or emails sent, to advise further how they wished to proceed.
Therefore sadly, we were not able to correct the problem during their stay due to their lack of responsiveness which we needed to understand the problem and coordinate access to the property during their stay. Below is an email thread between management and guest.

Date: 13 August 2014 16:23:31 BST Property management responded:
"I am very sorry about this. I did email ASAP you upon learning of these and
was happy to get someone over there that day to sort these issues out - as I mentioned I have a 24 hour emergency plumber and electrician. But I never heard back from you regarding my texts and emails. I would nonetheless like to offer you a £100 discount for your troubles. We will definitely get someone over there.

We tried all of the outlets. Also, in the master bathroom, we were never able to get hot water in the sink - it was lukewarm only. The shower was never even lukewarm no matter how we followed the instructions in the book. We have each just taken one or two cold showers. We are leaving in the morning, but you may want to have somebody come check the place out prior to the arrival of your next guests so they don't experience the same issues"

Re: the size of the bedrooms, we have hosted countless families with children and have never received any comment about the beds or bedrooms being too small to sleep in. The 2nd bedroom has full sized single/twin bed under an eave which children love as it's cosy - and a normal double bed as well. The children were 9&10 years old in this party so I cannot see how these beds would have been too small.

As this is our first 2 star review out of consistent 5 start reviews, we are dismayed that we were not given a chance to rectify the problem.

Location was excellent - a 10 minute walk to the Tube, apartment was clean and had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable with down pillows and comforters. The owner keeps different weight comforters in the closet if you want a lighter or heavy comforters. Kitchen was well equipped and we did stay in on several evening and made dinnerr. We would highly recommend renting this unit knowing you will not be disappointed.

Great experience

We had the most wonderful visit to London, starting with this beautiful home in Notting Hill. What a fantastic 'home base' for our time in London. Not only is the house attractive, well maintained and well equipped, but Marina's hospitality made the experience perfect.

Since we were visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday, Marina went out of her way to ensure we had the cooking items needed to prepare a Thanksgiving meal and even pre-ordered a Turkey for us.

The location was super convenient to all corners of the City and walking distance to great restaurants and the Portobello Road Market. Don't miss that on Saturday.

Our family of 4, two teenagers, were super comfortable in this house and we would all recommend it to other families as well.

Bright and cheery loft in soggy London

We loved our stay at the Loft. It was the perfect place for our family of four to stay during out London visit. Plenty of room for everyone to be together and have their own space. Location to the bus stops and train station could not be better. Bus stop literally a few feet from the front gate. Marina was the best to work with! She helped us with restaurant suggestions, car services, and the best local markets. Even gave us suggestions on where to get a Christmas tree! We were grateful to come back to the Loft after our long days of sightseeing. Plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. Much better than a hotel room where you have to sit on the beds. The dvd player came in handy on Christmas day (nothing is open in London!). The Loft was very clean and well maintained, just like the photos. Would highly recommend this to a family or two couples. If we are ever in London again we hope the Loft will be available! Thanks Marina for a great stay.

Beautiful loft in a great location

We loved staying at the loft apartment -- it is sunny and spacious, in a quiet location off Portabello Road. The apartment had great amenities, and is in impeccable condition. Martina was incredibly helpful with information on local shops and transportation, and arranging a grocery order so we arrived with all the essentials in the fridge! The downstairs space is exactly how it looks in the photos; the upstairs bedrooms are lovely and sunny, although be aware it is a loft with a sloping roof, so tall people need to be careful getting out of bed. Sheets, towels, bedding etc. are all great quality. We love the neighborhood -- great restaurants and shops within a 5-10 minute walk -- and would happily return to this property.

The house backs onto Kensington Memorial Park so trees, green lawn and blue sky are your view from all the six downstairs windows as well as out of all three bedroom velux windows upstairs.
