About Jen Bloomfield

Jen and Iain purchased the cottage in 2008 as a peaceful and tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of London life. They both grew up in Devon and are very fond of the South Hams. Whilst Iain spent his childhood in Mid Devon, hiking on Dartmoor and becoming well acquainted with local watering holes, Jen spent many a weekend in her teenage years and early twenties surfing on the coast with friends and Charlie, the chocolate Labrador. However, with careers in law and business management respectively, they do not have the time to stay at Pearl River Cottage as often as they would like, which is why they make every effort with the holiday cottage to welcome you in the hope that you derive the same amount of pleasure from your stay as they do.

Why Jen Bloomfield chose Kingsbridge

Pearl River Cottage is a very cosy cottage. It originally belonged to the church in the village before becoming a privately owned property. It is located in a quiet setting yet is only minutes into Kingsbridge with access to all the local amenities, as well as a short drive to the South West coast and coastal path, which links to all the beaches in the surrounding area.

This area has many fond memories for the owners and given its location and affordability makes it an ideal holiday for couples and families or simply for those who just wants to get away from it all.

Cosy cottage in great location

4 of 5
Submitted: April 16, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
Pearl River Cottage was very 'cosy' (& small) but was well presented and had everything you needed for a short break in the South Hams. Clearly the owners have an eye for detail making good use being made of the available space.
The second bedroom uses a bunk-bed so suits smaller children. Parking is limited outside the property but there is a generous village hall car park at the top of the hill, so other than loading/unloading it's not really a problem.
Being on the outskirts of Kingsbridge it is well located for exploring the area - Kingsbridge is a great town - parking available at the bottom of the town adjacent to the estuary. There's a Morrison's and Tesco supermarket on the way into town so no problem getting supplies.
Salcombe is very close -an attractive little town - Burgh Island/Bigbury-on-Sea is worth a visit too - very good beach and when the sea is out you can walk across to the Island. A little further afield is Plymouth - lots of history (Mayflower museum, Plymouth Hoe), great coffee shops (would particularly recommend the Flower Café - great food/cakes to die for). There is a large in door mall shopping centre which is much like any other city. We parked at the Barbican which is very close to the harbour front and quite reasonable. Follow signs for Barbican/Aquarium. The Plymouth Gin distillery is well worth a visit - oldest in the country - great bar/restaurant.
Eating out - sampled Sloop Inn, Bantham - food was very good. Nice pub/restaurant/ not expensive. The Oyster Shack, St Ann's Chapel (on the way to Bigbury) was busy and great seafood (more expensive but not too bad). The Globe, Frogmore - again good pub/restaurant.
All in all, it's a great area, with lots to see and do, great beaches, we'll definitely be back!
