My husband and I found this property to be even more lovely in person than it shows in the pictures. It is warm, inviting, comfy and beautifully decorated and incredibly well equipped. Joy's studio is located in a wooded setting with large windows and skylights galore that even on a cloudy day, everything looks bright and cheery. The deck offers a wonderful place to eat, read or watch the birds feed or see the stars and peaceful, private surroundings. Joy has provided a lovely binder of maps (some hand made) and information of the area. Damariscotta is a short 17 minute drive, which is a quaint year round town, not touristy, with lovely shops, activities, sites and restaurants.
Everything you need is provided for a comfortable stay, including a comfy bed with lovely bedding and linens. It is a magical place to enjoy your artful side, (this being an art studio) or you can just to relax reading or listening to the birds or music.
We recommend this rental without hesitation, just do not rent the week WE want to visit Joy's Haven.

Great vibe

Joy's Place is a true Joy to the visitor.
As you arrive in this studio you will find anything a good chef will require to prepare an excellent meal, her kitchen is fully equipped and the ingredients couldn't be fresher.
A few minutes down the road you will be exploring wonderful little towns, full of charming local shops and stunning sunsets.
It is definitely worth a trip.

This is My Home away from Home in Maine

I first stayed at Joy's place in June of 2005. Since then I have spent many weeks there in all seasons. It is and will continue to be a destination spot for me. I immediately felt right at home. I am ascetically driven and space oriented. Joy's place is an artist's studio with art and art supplies everywhere, a high ceiling and windows all about. Walking in is akin to stepping onto a palette or a piece of art in progress. The energy is palpable.
Joy herself is just that. Always responsive, ever enthusiastic, invisible and never intrusive.
In short, I give the absolute highest rating.

Joy's studio is a haven.

Aside from the fact that the studio is perfectly situated to allow you to take full advantage of the area's great towns, countryside, waterside, walking trails and backroads, the studio's setting is also lovely: it's private and peaceful without being isolated, a wall of windows looks out into the woods and onto Joy's gorgeous gradens; a two minute walk brings you to the edge of a stunningly picturesque cove. And inside the studio: there is nothing I can think of that Joy has not thought of to make the space feel warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in. It's bright and open, incredibly well equipped, and utterly comfortable. My husband and I spent two blissful summer weeks there: a combination of work and play--I'm a writer, he's a photographer. Then I returned in the fall (a beautiful time to be there) for two weeks by myself to write. Now my husband is going back in the winter for some working time for himself. It is a home away from home, a truly wonderful place.

Perfect

The property is as spacious, peaceful, and tasteful as the pictures suggest. The owner's artistic touch is everywhere. If good visual surroundings set your mind free, this is a great place to go to for pure concentration. Or you can just watch the goldfinches feeding on the deck or sit and read by the river.
Wireless internet access is available and local calls are free. Lots of little extras were provided, and plenty of useful local information. The owner couldn't have been more helpful: a charming shed bedroom was provided for me when visitors arrived; I was connected to the friendly Bristol community ("This is Maine", people kept telling me; "Everyone knows someone who knows what you want to know.").
It's hard to think of a down-side. There is no cell phone coverage on my network. This a real artist's studio, with lots of materials (tidily arranged) in the open, and so not for anyone with a small child. On the other hand, an artistically inclined 10-year-old would be in heaven.
