MAISON DU CHÂTEAU - NOW WITH LUXURY SWIMMING POOL!

Carcassonne City House Rental Photos and Description

Luxurious, Spacious House With Garden and Pool By Castle

NEW FOR 2014 -- STYLISH SWIMMING POOL FINISHED IN MEDIEVAL STONE INSTALLED AT REAR OF GARDEN, WITH SAFETY FENCE FOR CHILDREN

Maison du Château is a superbly renovated and extremely spacious 4 bedroom property in a world class location, nestled at the very foot of Carcassonne castle. The views from the house of the floodlit castle at night are simply breathtaking and the house sits on a quiet street in the ancient district of La Barbacane, just two minutes' walk via a secret stairway to the Port D'Aude entrance to the castle.

The Castle itself is the one of the world's most striking medieval fortified cities, housing a basilica, outdoor theatre, shops, restaurants with superb and varied local cuisine, as well as fantastic original battlements to explore.

All bedrooms are luxurious appointed with generous en-suite facilities (3 have minimalist wet-rooms), the large lounge has a huge L-shaped contemporary sofa and 42 inch TV with blu-ray player. The large kitchen, and adjoining dining area, is extremely well equipped and offers every modern convenience.

The house extends over three floors. The ground floor has a garage and entrance hall at the front, a huge dining room with exposed stone walls and adjacent kitchen to the rear, both of which open onto the garden and pool. The first floor has a large living room at the rear, again with exposed stone walls and access to a covered roof terrace with views of the castle, then two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms at the front of the house. The top floor has two very large bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the rear one of which has unrivalled views of the castle.

All our guests have thoroughly enjoyed staying in the house, please take a read of our reviews which have been excellent! You can either rummage through our extensive wine cellar (in a spine-tingling 14th century room under the house) and decide to buy one of our own in-house wines, or the local vineyards have excellent selections. For dining at the house there is the elegant indoor dining room with wood-burning stove, and outdoor area with French shingle and pretty Olive trees, or the large balcony with breathtaking views of the Castle towering above.

The house also has 2 powerful wood-burning stoves, which allows guests to stay any time of year, with many of our winter guests combining a cultural trip to historic Carcassonne with skiing in the nearby Pyrenees mountains.

The house and gardens boast a host of unique features including an outstanding internal medieval well (in the kitchen itself) and stone walls dating from the Romans which run along the back of the garden.

The nearby castle plays host to year-round festivals and world-class live music (this summer's festivals included concerts by Elton John, The Arctic Monkeys etc). Outside of the historic city, the Bastide St Louis -- a grid of shops, historic buildings, and the Place Carnot marketplace, with its Saturday market and outdoor cafes -- is just a short walk across the beautiful Pont Vieux.

Fantastic scenery nearby with swimming lake on edge of town and Mediterranean beaches 45 minutes drive away. The French countywide around Carcassonne is superb, with rolling hills, historic hilltop villages with historic churches and abbeys.

This is an ideal location for an extremely relaxing family holiday. In addition, Carcasssonne offers a huge variety of day trips within 30 minutes drive, such as the wonderful villages of Mirepoix, Minerve and Lagrasse which are internationally acclaimed for their history and beauty.

The house is easily spacious enough to accommodate two small families, with two super-King beds and two double beds, and space in the lounge for extra people to sleep on the sofa bed. There are also extra occasional beds available.

The local streets are the setting for the current Channel 4 series Labyrinth, based on the celebrated novel by Kate Mosse.

Special note: secure bookings on Paypal and half rental payment in advance to secure booking.. Upon booking half of weekly rent up front to secure booking, plus a cleaning and bed linen and towels charge.

Higher price for Bastille Day week in Carcassonne, with incredible world-renowned fireworks display over the Castle.

There is a cleaning charge for your stay, which also includes bed linen and towels provided, of 195 euros.

PLEASE NOTE -- The adjacent property (on holidaylettings.co.uk REF 371733), which is under separate ownership, sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms, so for larger parties (like weddings etc) it may be possible to book both properties together. Please contact either owner to discuss.

I purchased this property with a friend to enjoy as a holiday home and to rent out. We just fell in love with the location as it's right at the foot of Carcassonne Castle, and the view of the house by day and night (when it is floodlit) are spectacular.

Ashley Seager purchased this house in 2011

We love the fact the house is on a peaceful road but very near a really lively area with lots of superb restaurants and bars. The nearby countryside is, in my opinion, some of the very best in France and extremely varied. And the sun shines so bright and all day long in this region, at least it seems that way!

Very comfortable, luxurious house. Swimming in nearby lake (car journey) is exquisite, and the Mediterranean coast is only 50 minutes drive away. In Winter, excellent quality Skiing is available Approx one hour drive away.

Maison du Chateau was a very very positive surprise, so much space, super facilities and interior, clean and at a prime location! We were 4 couples and having our own bathrooms was just perfect. We used the covered terrasse a lot, as the weather was nice and warm. And it was just perfect that a bit of coffes beans, teabags, oil etc were there when we arrived, it makes the start of the holiday much easier.

A fantastic week was spent at Castle House with our friends after a week of cycling the Canal Du Midi. Eight of us enjoyed the beautiful house in the ideal location for enjoying the old city views while lazing on the terrace, drinking the local wine. We travelled from Australia, New Zealand, UK and Holland to meet and enjoy Carcassonne. Castle house provided everything we could want for a wonderful holiday. It is ideally located for the old city and a short walk across the Pont Vieux gets you in to the town where there are a good variety of restaurants and shops. There are also good restaurants very close and small shops providing most of your daily needs.

The house itself provides all the mod cons with lovely furniture and linen and very comfortable and practical. A bathroom in every room was great and quality linen is a lovely touch.
The owners are very helpful and informative, always willing to answer questions and give directions.

I will be recommending this house to my family and friends & would definitely return if in the area.

A beautiful gem in Carcassonne

My husband and I travelled from Australia to meet our family who had flown in from the UK to Carcassonne and were overwhelmed by how perfect the Castle House was for us. We had ages ranging from 1-65 years old and the house accomodated our group perfectly.
The location is totally beautiful, so central and literally only a 5 minute walk or climb and you're actually inside the castle walls or 20 minutes walk in the other direction and your in central town. ( There are also near by local shops and resturants 2 minutes around the corner that have everything)
The house itself is stunning, all the mod cons and lovely furniture and linen
The owners and French agent were also very helpful and informative, always willing to answer questions and give directions.
We were there for Bastille Day which was fantastic! As you can see from our pictures this house had the perfect views away from the hassle and noise of the crowds. There is also a summer music festival from late June to early August all around Carcassone and to our delight we could often hear many of the concerts that were taking place within the castle walls on our veranda, everything from the Ballet to Symphony’s to rock. It was excellent
Please do be warned though that during the height of summer it does get very hot, there is no air-con in the house & the upper rooms can get warm but nothing a fan or two can't handle.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this house & would definitely return if in the area, maybe in winter next time and then we could go skiing too!

Magic week

My wife and I spent an unforgettable week here in April, 2013. The sense of History constantly surrounded one. Carcasonne Castle is the second largest castle in Europe and its ramparts are one mile in length. Within its walls, less then 10 minutes walk away, there unfolds a magnifi cient story. Not too far away there are many other ancient and mysterious sites such as Dolmen Des Fados, over 5000 years old.
The house is enchanting and it is all that I imagined a well appointed French house should be. There are many beautiful features such as an eye-catching spiral staircase, beautiful original stone work and indoor secured andl lit wells. Moreover no similiar house could compete with it. Looking forward to a return visit.

absolutely perfect !!!

Wonderful stay in Carcassonne. The house has been renewed in the respect of the character of the house. The rooms all decorated with elegance. The kitchen is very well equipped; comfortable beds and a bathroom in every room is so appreciable. The garden/terrace is so pleasant; eating and having a drink looking at the magnificence of the castle is so magic; the children played outside without any danger.
The location of the house is perfect; very near the old town with its restaurants and cafés and not so far from the “modern” centre of the town. Rue Longue is so calm at the meantime. We really enjoyed our time. We visited other destinations : ancients villages around , the Lastours castle …We can really recommend your beautiful house and many thanks again for you great suggestions before our arrival and for the great welcome from Nicola once at “home”. We will certainly comeback !!!

Unique location at the very foot of Carcassonne Castle, Europe's largest Castle and a celebrated Unesco World Heritage site, immortalised in Kate Mosse's Labyrinth. Set on a quiet, medieval street the house is adjacent to the house Kate Mosse has in Carcassonne. It is just a few minutes walk away from a huge array of cafes, bars and restaurants set within the Castle walls. Just a 15 minute drive from the house are lovely lakes with first-class beaches for swimming and water sports activities. Carcassonne also offers a huge variety of day trips within a 30 minute drive, such as the wonderful villages of Mirepoix, Minerve and Lagrasse which are internationally acclaimed for their history and beauty.

Notes:
Excellent location, super tourist sites in easy reach with some of the very best French countryside on your doorstep. The Castle is a Unesco World Heritage Site and is a short walk from the house. Plenty for children to do in the area, and they will love playing on the nearby Lake beaches which are a short 15 minute drive from the house. The swimming is excellent here and shallow on the beaches with lifeguards and there is a total wipeout style water sports facility also on the lake which children aged 7-18 will love.
