Guestbook comments from the owner
From 22 March to 5 April 2013 we had a very enjoyable stay at Maison Breuil in Sarlat-de-Canéda. Our party consisted of two middle-aged couples, and a daughter who joined us for the first week.
The house accommodated us comfortably. Sleeping and bathroom appointments were clean and fresh. The linen and towels were of good quality. Even the attic bedroom was adequately comfortable for two with a full bathroom across the landing (mind your head on the door lintels!). The sitting room with television is pleasant, but this we hardly used, preferring the cosy kitchen with its round dining table, chairs and music centre. The kitchen has everything one could reasonably need; much is new, nothing is lacking and all is clean and in good working order. The garden is attractive and clearly well-tended. Unfortunately, on account of the weather (not unusual for this time of year, the temperature was mostly 6 – 16°C and the sky overcast), we could make only little use of the patio and terrace (which would be a boon on sunny days). The swimming pool was covered (none of us would have ventured to swim), but would be welcome in hot weather (apparently abundant in summer).
All in all the property was everything we had hoped it would be. We much appreciated the welcome basket on our arrival as well as the folder with helpful information, including recipes typical of the area and brochures. We also found the free Wi-Fi and landline very convenient. The immediate surroundings are semi-suburban, but tranquil and with a rural atmosphere. The walk into the medieval town, by at least four different pretty routes, is about 800m (about 10 minutes' comfortable walk). We never missed a market day and regularly bought fresh bread from the nearby boulangerie. Sarlat itself is delightful; the architecture is arresting and best seen in the early morning and evening, The surrounding countryside and all the neighbouring towns are charming. Having a car is a great advantage.
About the host and hostess, and management: the property changed hands while we were making arrangements for our stay. The new proprietors, Paula and Stephen, have taken over seamlessly and have in fact effected many improvements, among them substantial refurbishing. In our e-mail contact with them they were unfailingly prompt and very cordial. (We secretly wish they would open other guest houses elsewhere for us to stay at!)
We had a wonderful holiday -

We visited the Dordogne originally around 20 years ago, coming back year after year and fell in love with the area, especially Sarlat and all it has to offer. We finally moved here a couple of years ago ourselves and are therefore your first point of contact if you need help or advice. You will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area.
Stunning period property with may original features, private pool, mature private garden and Sarlat on foot......... what more could you ask for.
This is a wonderful turn of the century period stone town house with good size mature private garden set within an easy 5 minute stroll of Sarlat. La Maison Breuil is situated in a fantastic quiet yet cental location. You can walk to the wonderful boulangeries for your morning croissants and freshly baked baguettes. Everything you wish to sample, restaurants, shopping, sight seeing etc is right on your doorstep. We love to wander into the town purchasing plenty of local produce, Foie Gras, Confit de Canard, Goat cheese etc, saunter back home within minutes and enjoy our feast watching the locals playing Petanque in the tree lined square at the front of the house, an ultimate French experience.
