Outside, there is a large stone table and chairs overlooking the pool area for al fresco dining. Terrace seating is also provided, so you can enjoy the sunsets as you sip a drink at the end of the day. There are sunbeds so you can make the most of the sun - Murcia has 300 days of sunshine a year, on average! Our villa is perfect for a quiet, quality, get-away-from-it-all break in real Spain. If you are looking for bright lights, noisy bars, and British breakfasts, this is not the place for you!!
We are Mike and Angela Jones - we retired to Spain from Oxfordshire in 2004, mainly because we were fed up with the British weather! Mike plays a lot of golf, and was frustrated with the damp, cold and foggy conditions he was forced to play in there! Mike had worked as a facilities manager, and Angela has a background as a management skills trainer - she ventures back to the UK occasionally to run courses! We live about 40 minutes drive from this property, and we take care of it ourselves, with a bit of help from a neighbour. We love the Murcia Region, and we want to do all we can to ensure you have a great stay in our beautiful villa
Angela Jones purchased this villa in 2009
We fell in love with this property at first sight . We thought the design was great, with bedrooms larger than most Spanish properties, and more bathrooms. We were also attracted by the large garden, offering more peace and quiet. We thought it had the best of both worlds - a small exclusive development offering neighbours and friends and a supportive environment, together with a rural, peaceful location. When we bought it, we thought we would live there ourselves, but four years later we are still happy in our present home so have decided to rent this one out as a holiday let - it seems a shame to leave such a lovely property empty! One day, we will probably live here ourselves.
This really is a house with a view! The marvellous scenery can be enjoyed from the upstairs and downstairs terraces, and also from Bedrooms 1,4 and the lounge.
We changed the design of the house when it was being built, so that it now has a big archway in between the lounge/dining room and kitchen - perfect for chatting whilst you prepare a meal!
This is a truly smashing holiday villa, as other reviewers have said the photos don't do the villa justice, but also the views from the shaded front veranda are also wonderful. This is one place I would selfishly love to keep a secret but that wouldn't be fair on Angela and Mike, who from the very first email inquiry to saying goodbye at the gate of the villa, couldn't be any more helpful, thoughtful and charming, they are perfect hosts. Our time in the villa was a great experience, besides heading into the supermarket in Campos del Rio for essentials, we didn't leave, we had everything we needed in the space.
The house is wonderful, well equipped and extremely spacious but we spend very little time in it, breakfast, lunch, dinner all eaten outside whether at the table on the veranda or the table beside the bbq. Our days were spend around the pool and our evenings on the veranda. We had a great time as a family and would love to return.
Review of casa de luz
Lovely spacious villa, fantastic mountains views. Exceeded expectations. We stayed here in august with our 3 adult children and partners, we all had large bedrooms 3 with two full bathrooms , one with a shower. Angela and mike welcomed us with cold drinks, the drive from the airport was straight forward and very little traffic.
Pool temp of 30 degrees in aug ! We were pleasantly surprised . Villages of Campos and Mula have friendly markets and easy parking.
A great place to unwind and relax.
Absolutely amazing time at this villa, Mike and Angela terrific hosts, ensuring you can begin your holiday on arrival, so relaxing and provide a range of complimentary drinks etc as a welcome. Campos Del Rio village was so friendly and really appreciated our attempts to speak Spanish. Market on a Wednesday at village is worth a trip. We also spent a day in Cartagena which was worth the one hour journey. 45 mins to drive to Murcia was great.
Had a great time, even our two teenage sons thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
If you are looking for a relaxing time with great views, or even if you enjoy sight seeing I would recommend this villa as the nearby towns and cities are easily accessible and the motorways are of a good standard.
Thank you Mike and Angela we all had a great time.
We have just returned from this villa, after spending a glorious 2 weeks. Mike and Angela, the owners' of the villa are so helpful, in the run up to the holiday, welcoming on arrival and during the stay, without being intrusive. The photos of the villa don't do it justice, the master ensuite, with the wrap around balcony, with the views overlooking the lemon groves and onto the mountains will be in my memory for sometime to come.
We travelled with another family and having 3 ensuites plus a wc, for eight people were a godsend when getting ready to go out for the day.
Be prepared to drive, but the local village of Campos Del Rio, is only a 5 minute drive with everything you can need and the villagers are so friendly and welcoming, this is traditional Spain without a Full English Breakfast sign to be seen anywhere.
I would recommend this villa and this location to anyone needing a couple of weeks, relaxing, a real chill out, away from it all. We were all really sad to leave and I could easily have stayed for another week, without hesitation.
Thank you Mike and Angela for allowing us to stay at your beautiful villa, it's the best holiday we have had for sometime!
Wow what a fantastic place with even more amazing hosts!!! Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a great holiday. Everything you could wish for and more......clean, tidy, accommodating and comfortable - truly 5* in every way!
From first contact with Angela and Mike we knew this was going to be a great holiday. We were impressed by the photo's of the villa but the reality was something much more than spectacular. We arrived late in the evening and were greeted by Angela and Mike sitting on the porch with a glass of wine overlooking the huge pool which was lit up throwing lovely shadows up to the sky.
The villa itself is just a dream , extremely spacious and finished to the highest detail with everything you could require for a vacation. The fridge was full of essentials with complimentary water, wine and beer from the owners. They imparted lots of knowledge to us about the local area, the times of shops opening etc for food/supplies and everything else we might need for us to get on with our holiday.
The villa is set in the most amazing area, surrounded on all sides by rugged terrain with spectacular views of mountains ranges etc.
During our stay I broke one of the many sunloungers supplied at the villa, suspecting I had lost my deposit I alerted Angela who took this all in her stride, said she would bring a new one to the villa at the weekly linen change and all I had to do was pay for the replacement and she was happy. This shows you the calibre of people that we dealt with, very honourable and decent. One of the best nights on our holiday was the dinner we had with Angela and Mike in Mazarron.
I would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a villa holiday in a quiet area in a luxurious home with a stunning backdrop. our party consisted of 2 families , 8 people ranging in age from 42 to 2 years old. We all got somthing different and enjoyable from this holiday and property and we will return here for sure !!!!
The Holohan families from Dublin , Ireland...
Our property is located on a small exclusive private development just outside the charming Spanish village of Campos del Rio. The villa is set amongst tranquil countryside, where a lot of fruit including apricots and pomegranates are grown in the more fertile valleys. The scenery is quite stunning, with a backdrop of mountains. Well signposted, newly made hiking trails can be found very close to the villa, giving you a wonderful opportunity to sample the lovely countryside of Murcia. This really is rural Spain at its best.
The local village of Campos del Rio offers all the basic things you need for a holiday here - a supermarket, butchers, bakers - even a weekly market (Wednesdays). There is even a Sports centre, and a medical centre (open 24hours a day!)
Golf is available just 15 minutes drive away at Altorreal, with a wide variety of other excellent courses within a 30 minute drive.
As well as swimming in the private pool at the villa, you can enjoy the thermal pools at the renowned spa town of Archena - perfect for relaxation, or for the winter months, as the waters are 33 degrees year round! Massages and a wide range of treatments are on offer there. If you want to see some culture, the historic city of Murcia is only a 15-20 minute car ride away. There, you can visit the beautiful Baroque Cathedral, art galleries, go to the theatre, or maybe just sit in one of the beautiful squares with a drink and some tapas and watch the locals stroll by. There are many shops in Murcia City centre, including the famous department store, El Corte Ingles, and two retail parks on the outskirts of Murcia make shopping a must! Murcia also offers Terra Natura, a themed area with a water park and zoo.
Heading inland, you could visit the attractive and interesting towns of Mula and Caravaca, the latter famous for its horse running festival on 2nd May each year. The NorthWest of Murcia offers some stunning mountain scenery, as well as a chance to visit the wine producing regions and vineyards around Jumilla and Bullas.
Another local trip to be recommended is a drive to the Sierra Espuna National Park, just 25 minutes away. This mountainous terrain is home to a wide range of animal and bird life, including wild boar! Activities such as quad biking and kayak lake trips are available here.
A 50 or so minute drive will take you to numerous miles of unspoilt coastline. The warmer waters of the Mar Menor - a large lagoon - offer a range of watersports. The Calblanque National Park has fabulous, sandy beaches and few visitors. The Naval town of Cartagena is another place to visit, now a popular port of call for cruise liners. It is oozing with charm and history and offers many sights of interest- the Roman amphitheatre, museums, magnificent buildings and a lovely promenade, to name a few. If you visit during late September, the Romans and Christians festival, which lasts over a week, offers some spectacular sights and sounds.
The pretty seaside town of Puerto de Mazarron is a firm favourite. There is a beautiful, tree-lined promenade, lined with a range of excellent restaurants, where fresh fish, salads and tasty tapas abound. The food and drink here is amazing value for money, making eating out a popular pastime. There are some excellent coastal walks in the area, from beyond Bolnuevo in the West, to La Azohia in the East.
Driving around the Murcia region could not be easier. There is an excellent motorway network, the roads are well signposted, and more importantly the roads are relatively traffic free, compared to the UK.
