Charlevoix House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, House accommodates maximum of 5 people

This home is in a truly unique neighborhood, surrounded by state protected land, and facing due west toward Lake Michigan. There is a deck and boardwalk connecting the house to the beach directly. The lingering sunsets and direct view of the lake are breathtaking and ever-changing. This area has been deemed as the #1 Destination in 2014 named by 'Lonely Planet!'. Lonely Planet (worldwide travel guide) has named Lake Michigan's Gold Coast 'perhaps the USA's most unexpected beach getaway. Along 300 miles of seemingly endless beaches lie sugar-white dunes, wineries, antiquing, U-pick orchards and berry farms, cider houses, Hemingway haunts--you can even go surfing!'

This location was also voted the ' #1 Most Beautiful Place in America--Sleeping Bear Dunes'--Voted Aug. 2011 by Good Morning America-- just 70 miles away! In June 2012, USA Today voted Lake Charlevoix--10 miles away-- the #2 Most Beautiful Lake in the U.S.! This entire location in northern Michigan was also featured in USA Today (April 2010), and on the TODAY show (Aug. 2010) as an ideal vacation destination--especially on Lk. Michigan. Though these award winning locations are nearby, the amazing views from this house may be the most prized of all! This west-facing home *on* Lk. Michigan is a spectacular place for your vacation! Comfortable 1970 ranch home with updates, newly renovated full bath (2014), screened porch (lake-facing), attached two-car garage, washer, dryer, gas grill, and a beach fire pit. Breathtakingly beautiful sunsets linger until 11:00 p.m. in the summer months. Extensive decking connects the home with the shoreline.

The 'backyard' IS Lake Michigan! The sight of the sun setting into Lk. Michigan is unforgettable. This tidy home is in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by state land, and only 6 miles south of Charlevoix. Miles of sand-rock beach in low dune protected shoreline. Special quiet, residential location.

We allow dogs only and with permission. No Smoking permitted.

Beach Description: The property is in a low dune area on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The beach is a mixed sand/stone beach only a few steps down from the property's deck.

Six miles of pristine undeveloped shoreline is less than a five minute walk away.

The Lake Michigan water level varies yearly, but on average this is a shallow bay area of the Lake, with water depths of one-to-three feet for the first fifty feet of water.

There are several public Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix beaches within a ten minute drive.

Lake Michigan temperatures run between 65-70F from July 4th to Labor Day, and Lake Charlevoix runs between 65-75 F. Various water activities are available nearby in Charlevoix and Petoskey.

The sun sets from the deck over the water from St. Patrick's Day through Thanksgiving.

The long summer evening make a bonfire on the beach a perfect way to end your day.

Resort Town Area: The property is within a short drive of several popular resorts towns in Northwestern Lower Michigan. The closest is Charlevoix, a quaint all seasons town wedged between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix. Boyne City, Petsokey, Bay View, Bay Harbor, and Harbor Springs are within 10 miles. All the towns are excellent centers for shopping, restaurants, year long festivals, and favorites for mid-westerners since the early 1900's. At the property their is an extensive catalog of area attractions, restaurant ratings, and a festival schedule for you to explore and enjoy. Traverse City and Mackinaw are also within a hour of the property, and are excellent areas for a day trip. This is also an ideal location for nearby wedding venues such as The Castle, Perry Hotel and Bay Harbor.

'SLEEPING BEAR DUNES'--70 miles away-- was recently voted #1 Most Beautiful Place in America by Good Morning America. It's a beautiful drive, and an exquisite site to behold.

Golf: This area of Northern Michigan is home to nearly 40 Championship Courses, and this property could be used as a base to explore most of the highly rated. The nearest is Belvedere Golf Club, a semi-private course with public access built in the 1920's, host of the Michigan Amateur for over 40 times. Also, in the immediate Charlevoix area are the highly acclaimed Dunmaglas course and Charlevoix Country Club. Within a 30 minute drive you will reach all of the nine Boyne USA courses at Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and Bay Harbor. The Bay Harbor course (links/quarry) and The Heather at Boyne Highlands are ranked in the 'Top 100 courses you can play' in the US. Just another 15 minutes one can reach the Gaylord Golf Region which includes the Treetops Resort, and if you head south, you can reach the Grand Traverse and Shanty Creek Resorts, home of The Bear, Cedar Creek, and The Legend. But don't forget the sunsets.

Scenic beauty from deck

  • 4 of 5
The rental was clean and comfortable with minor adjustment to some of the cabin beds. The view from the house, screened in porch, and deck was lovely. Quiet and peaceful setting. We were a little disappointed
in the beach. It would be quite a walk for toddlers and there wasn't much sand. The water was murky with the rest of the shore being very rocky and slippery. However, we have heard that the great lakes can be murky this time of year. We noticed the same in other coves along the shore.

Owner's Response: From owner: Regarding Air Conditioning: The house DOES HAVE CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING.
(Guest mentioned that it didn't have AC; this information was in error).
Regarding Beach: The Lake Michigan shoreline varies constantly. In this area, community efforts have been made to thwart growth of invasive grasses. These efforts have been successful and continue.

Sunsets and Romance

  • 5 of 5
This ranch home is just right for that romantic getaway. Hidden among the trees in a secluded small neighborhood of beach homes surrounded on three sides by Fisherman's Island State park, the setting is idyllic, facing west into the setting sun over Lake Michigan. You can see Leelenau Peninsula and the two Fox Islands from several spots in the house and of course, on the deck. At night, you can see way down Grand Traverse Bay to the tip of Old Mission peninsula where the beacon light blinks a lazy red. The sky is a wonder, with the most stars I have ever seen east of the Mississippi! From the beach you can see past Fisherman's Island all the way to the north shore of Little Traverse Bay. Yet you are only 5 miles south of Charlevoix - a beautiful little burg with very friendly people and plenty to do and see. We made short day trips to Petoskey, the wine country, Traverse City, all within a few minutes to an hour away. The home itself has everything you need, although it's not lavish. We were perfectly at home right away. It was quite comfortable. The screened in porch was great when we weren't lounging in the sun or walking on the beach. The house has a binder with all the skinny on where to eat and what to do for the entire area, not just Charlevoix. This was a great cheat sheet, with menus, directions, etc. The owners were very down to earth and friendly when we made our reservations. We wouldn't hesitate to spend our vacation here again! We highly recommend it, or should we keep it a secret so it will be available the next time we want to it?

Sunsets and serenity

  • 4 of 5
We had a perfect weather week. The views are spectacular and the cottage is cozy and comfortable. It was clean and well supplied. The outdoor deck space is huge bonus. Master bedroom is small, as is bath. No air conditioning but it wasn't needed for our week. Dogs loved it but the rocky water is hard on paws. Downside is how far the water has receded. Have to wade way out to get to a swimming depth. Wore tennis shoes in water due to rocks. Water was warm and clear. Loved the sound of the waves -very serene. Extra nature bonus was the dog getting skunked! Oh well - still a good vacation.

#1 Destination in 2014 named by 'Lonely Planet!' Yes--it's true! Lonely Planet (worldwide travel guide) has named Lake Michigan's Gold Coast 'perhaps the USA's most unexpected beach getaway. Some argue that these shores rival Hawaii's and Southern California's. Along 300 miles of seemingly endless beaches lie sugar-white dunes, wineries, antiquing, U-pick orchards and berry farms, cider houses, Hemingway haunts--you can even go surfing!'

This home is in a special, quiet neighborhood with a west-facing beach--unbelievable sunsets!!-- surrounded by pristine state land. Off your deck stroll miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline, enjoy birdwatching, and other native wildlife, swim and search for Petoskey stones. Outdoor activities abound in this popular vacation area. Enjoy hiking in Fisherman's Island State Park. Play golf in this highly rated area--over 40 championship courses within 30 miles.

Excellent public beaches along Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix are within a short drive.

Shopping, gourmet dining, fine antiques and summer festivals await you in three quaint Northern Michigan resort towns within 15 miles of your secluded homesite, or hop in your car and explore Little Traverse and Grand Traverse Bay scenic drives.

Besides the peak summer months, spring and fall are especially pleasant, with the trillium bloom in early May, and the spectacular fall color throughout October
